good amp with wattage attenuation

Re: good amp with wattage attenuation

The power attenuation on those Hughes & Kettner amps is really good. It feels like another level of saturation when you put it on 1W and chunk out a power chord.

If they're good enough for Lifeson...

Re: good amp with wattage attenuation

If I had a cabinet that could handle 40 Plus watts I'd be considering the rebel 30 mk2 or Hughes and kettner tubemeister 36

Personally, I use an Emery SuperBaby with 'Mad Scientist' tube kit option. It can even be loud, so a Microbaby might be another option. If you just buy 1 really nice NOS pre tube and 1 really nice NOS power tube, it is heaven playing at home.

Re: good amp with wattage attenuation

I can't go for a amp above 25 watts at the moment due to my cab limits

What kind of cab do you have? You can run a 40W amp into a 25W cab, you just shouldn't turn crank it. It's not putting out full power at any volume level. The Tubemeister 36 has a power soak so you can run it at 18, 5, or 1W if you are worried about full power.

Yes, it is safer to have speakers rated to handle the full power of the amp, but unless you are cranking it, you will be fine until you can upgrade your cab or speaker.

Re: good amp with wattage attenuation

does anyone know if the engl ironball is any good?
from what i've heard the cleans sound great and it's incredibly tight sound but obviously YouTube compression isn't too accurate
