Would like to know if you guys could indicate a good and affordable guitar boost pedal... I was thinking about the MXR Micro Amp... Thx

Re: Good guitar boost pedal.

you are looking for just a clean boost? the mxr is fine. mi audio boost & buff is good too. the barber launch pad sounds great. and the duncan pickup booster is a good choice too. lots of options out there

Yep, a clean boost. Just for live performance when I play lead solos..

Re: Good guitar boost pedal.

EHX LPB-1.

BBE Grande Boosta (bladefrenzy has one he could be persuaded to part with, I think)

Re: Good guitar boost pedal.

MXR Micro Amp +. That little bit of EQ is subtle, but very useable for some slight tone tweaks.

Re: Good guitar boost pedal.

I have been using MXR/ CAE line driver-boosts for a few years and can't fault them. They are I believe pretty much a Micro Amp in a black enclosure, not sure if there are any component differences.

Re: Good guitar boost pedal.

Been using a 70's MXR Micro Amp since the early 80's. Gigged a couple of weeks ago with it.

Re: Good guitar boost pedal.

I assume you just want boost…..but consider:

Compressor = boost + compression/sustain
EQ = Boost + Tone shaping
TS9 (etc) = Boost + grit + eq
Volume pedal = variable amount of boost on the fly

Many newer boosts have tone or bass/treble controls

Whatcha tryin to do?

Lots of options.

Always good word about the Exotic EP Boost

Re: Good guitar boost pedal.

I have a LOT of boost pedals (something like 8 by my last count).
They are all different. The micro amp will not steer you wrong, I have become a big fan of MXR over the past year or so and now own 4 MXR pedals (script Phase 90, distortion+, micro flange, bass di+).

Are you winding up your amp for leads, or just want more level and suststain with a bit of a level boost? 2 channel
amp or 1? Effects loop?

A boost in the effects loop can give you a massive level boost and is recommended if you are playing with high gain, as a boost will only add more distortion and no level boost into the front of the amp in that case.

Another alternative, especially if you are using high gain, is the Heavy Electronics Descend. This is a volume attenuator. I have low wattage, single channel amps and I set them for my lead tone and then use the Descend to step the volume DOWN when I am not soloing.

I have a MXR Dyna comp and it's always on. I think I just need a boost really when it comes to solos. But I don't want the boost to add more distortion. The Micro Amp would work fine, right? Thanks man

I'm not using the effects loop at the moment. My amp is a Laney GH 100l, 100 watts all tube. I don't want the boost pedal to change the ammount of distortion. Just want it to give me a bit more level when soloing. I have a MXR Dyna Comp that I place before my Boss MT-2. The boost would go after the MT-2, then the distortion sound would not change itself. Cheers!!!

Re: Good guitar boost pedal.

+1 on the MI audio. particularly how it becomes more of a treble boost in the upper range so notes stay clear. It really does kick a preamp right in the gonads.

Re: Good guitar boost pedal.

The most transparent boost I've ever used is the Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster. It's extremely quiet, transparent, has 25db of boost (which is lots), and you can change the resonant peak of your tone to make single coils sound like humbuckers if you want to.

Re: Good guitar boost pedal.

I use a Hardwire CM-2 Tube Overdrive; just turn Gain down below 9 o-clock so you don't get the pedal's grit, and it works wonderfully as a clean boost.

Re: Good guitar boost pedal.

I like my EQ pedal with the level up
And a bit of a mid bump for leads
But that's me

Re: Good guitar boost pedal.

EP booster works for me. I have tried others with EQ (Timmy, Spark, Tone Job) but the EP has my sweet spot already dialed in no matter what amp I am using and sounds good with a strat or Les Paul ( I really like it with a strat).

Re: Good guitar boost pedal.

the clean boost i have is a Visual Sound Trutone. It also has a tone pot.

I havent used it in awhile. I like my color boosts: T-rex Luxury Drive and Soul Food

Re: Good guitar boost pedal.

I have a had a couple Seymour Duncan pickup boosters. It's probably my favorite pedal.

Re: Good guitar boost pedal.

I think I should have a look at the SD pickup booster, it looks quite like what I want. The Micro Amp as well. I'm between those two now. They have similar prices I guess

Thx for all the ideas guys. You rule!!!
