Good guitar with P-90's??

Well, I've got the humbucking thing covered (Les Paul) and the single coil thing covered (Tele) and now I'm curious about P-90's of which I've never tried. I'm sure that some guitar/pickup combinations are better sounding than others so any info on what to try and what to avoid would be appreciated. Thanks and Merry Christmas to all.

Depending on whether or not you can deal with a non standard guitar shape, I'd suggest the EBMM Albert Lee model with P90's.

Re: Good guitar with P-90's??

some= Music Man Axis, Godin LG P90 all of i can think of now, by the way the MM are real expensive but they say there worth every penny.

Re: Good guitar with P-90's??

I've got an Axis with P-90s and it is a great guitar, flame maple neck, one-piece ash body, locking tuners. What I really dig about the Axis is the "silent circuit". It elimintes almost all hum form the single coil pickups. I don't know if you are in to high gain, it is sweet for that. Albert Lees are supposed to be good as well, but I have not played one. Axis' are really cheap used, they are high quality guitars that have a relatively low resale value for some reason. I got mine for $500 with a hardcase. It was a rare deal, but they are there if you can wait. I don't see myself ever selling this thing. I've been interested in the new reissiued SG Classic. They are a decent price for a new SG.

I plugged in my Hamer Gold Top today, and it sounded terrific.

I don't think you could go wrong with any Gibson unless money is an issue.

Godin makes great guitars, but the P90s used on them are awful. They're very scooped sounding. If you can crank the mids enough they sound great.

Re: Good guitar with P-90's??

I really like my Gibson SG Junior's alot. I only paid $400 each for them brand new. However, they only have one P-90 in them.

I believe a version of the Schecter Tempest comes equipped with P-90's.. I've been VERY impressed with Schecter's stuff. Couldn't go wrong with one of those.

Re: Good guitar with P-90's??

the Hamer Special is another one with P90s - doublecut, flat mahogany body

I've seen these used for around $400

BluesnMettle has a couple

the tornados have a humbucker under the cover and a Jazzmaster has Jazzmaster pups not P-90...they sound nothing like a P-90

ah jeez, that's embarassing

my bad

Everybody makes the mistake that a Jazzmaster pup aounds like a P-90 but a JM pup is very clean has a scooped midrange, and is real "plunky" with very little sustain...a P-90 has a very lively tone with lots of mids and a gritty clean tone...night and day difference.
