Hello Hello Carrot--
What is the Gibbo Custom Shop calling that color on your Special?? I can't tell by the picture if there is grain showing through the paint. TV white? Regular TV?? Limed Mahogany?
Thanks-
Brian.

I originally thought it was a historic 60RI in TV White, but I inquired with the Gibson custom shop and they said it was a one-off custom order in "smoke white". Personally, I've been calling it white-wash. It's more yellow than that picture looks, typical of most white Gibsons that oxidize.

Hello Hello-
Carrot-- Thanks! The color looks almost Telecaster-blonde in the photo.
So, there is grain showing through the paint??
Wattage- Where are the Dillons made? They look great, have you played one???
Thanks,
Brian.

Yea, sort of like Fender's Mary Kay finish, slightly cloudy looking and you can see the mahogany underneath. Here's another shot of the back that shows it better.

Hello Carrot--
Looks like it might be a version of "TV White". [Relic TV white..] Does it look like the color was sprayed first and then the grain filler was applied over it [TV finish], or does it look like the grain filler is under the color coat [Fender Blonde] ?? Nice looking guitar nonetheless!
Brian.

Hello Again.....
hhmmmm...looking real close at the picture again..... seems like the grain filler was applied after the color ...
Thanks for the photo!
Brian.

Honestly, I've no friggin clue, I'm not knowledgeable in woodworking at all and couldn't tell you.

Hello Carrot--
That's O.K. I always like to find out about different guitar finishes [vintage-style] 'cuz every now-and-then somebody will ask me to do one for 'em.
Does yer Special sound as good as it looks? [probably does...!]
Brian.

Re: Good guitar with P-90's??

for what its worth it may not be a reissue from the custom shop but the gibson faded double cuutaway lp's have always impressed me.

I don't think you could go wrong with any Gibson unless money is an issue.

Godin makes great guitars, but the P90s used on them are awful. They're very scooped sounding. If you can crank the mids enough they sound great.

Ugh Gibson? compared to a Godin? Man my Gibson neck was nowhere near as nice and playable as my godin. That said what Godin with P90s did you play mine has a set of SD customs that came in it from the factory.

An LG P90 gets my vote. It has 24 frets (22 now) all mahogany body and neck with a rosewood fingerboard and holly headstock veneer. Also a TOM bridge and string through body. This guitar feels VERY ALIVE in my hands. The only beef with mine was the 250k pots but that is easy enough to fix.

I just got my Musicians Friend and the SG classic is selling for $849 and they now have a Les Paul Jr. for $649. I've been wanting a Junior for quite sometime. I'm thinking of putting my computer recording stuff on hold and picking up a junior.

Wattage-
You hit the nail on the head! The Epi Wild Kat is, IMO, the best value that there is for a P-90 equipped guitar. I bought one about 3 years ago for $375 brand new, and liked it so much that is was the only guitar I played for an entire year. I sold my Gibson SG w/ P-90's because it didn't sound anywhere near as good as the Epi! You can kinda see it in this pic...

Guild Blues 90 is a Bluesbird with P90's. Back a few years ago, Guitar Center reentered into a nice fat contract with Gibson and they dumped Guild which had just gotten bought by Fender. THe old Westerly RI plant was shut down. GC was blowing out their demo BLues 90's for 599 and their Bluesbird with humbuckers for 799. It was the deal of the century. I ended up selling mine and making several hundred bucks in the process.

Guess what, I'd love to have one again. Chambered body, handmade and all that. Big mistake selling. Profit isn't everything. :(

i would love to have another bluesbird. killer guitars

Re: Good guitar with P-90's??

BW - the Dillions are still made. I just saw one at a shop the other day.

Re: Good guitar with P-90's??

A few suggestions that I have had experience with are the Gibson Les Paul Special Double Cut, PRS Soapbar SE, Agile. The Gibson was the only one that could get by without a pickup chance (IMHO), however, I think the best bang for the buck is the Agile. I just ordered (2) AL-3000M's and will be able to mod each of them with Duncans and TonePros for less than the stock Gibson LP Special. One's getting an APH set and ones getting Phat Cats.

$400.00 for a guitar thats solid mahogany (neck & body), 3/4" Maple Cap, Ebony Fretboard, Grover etc...How can you go wrong!?!

:)
