Good high-gain tube amp for bedroom-level tones?

Re: Good high-gain tube amp for bedroom-level tones?

C'mon, guys! ;)

Actually is a really good suggestion for the OP's nerds: plenty of good sims with a valve power output section, a good sounding low power mode, perfect for playing in in apartment, and enough poder for jams/gigs.

My comment had nothing to do with the suitability or lack thereof of your recommendation. In reality its no more absurd than the guys recommending 100 watts then using power scaling or attenuating to get it down to the level he needs. Its like saying hey go buy a Ferrari but never take it out of 1st gear.

My comment was just based purely on finding humour in GilmourD's choice of the word "ding" yes it is juvenile on my part but so what... I thought it was funny and if we cant have a little fun... why bother.
I agree with EC.

And what I almost dinged you for was posting a weird looking link with no context. I clicked on that link expecting some sort of compromised site saying it would clean viruses I didn't have or porn or something. When a picture of an amp popped up I was surprised. LOL

First of all, GilmourD, sorry for the way I posted that pic. Random googling, and posting in bed when one's almost sleeping is always a good way to start chaos in internet forums! ;) And I, as Edgecrusher seemingly did, found humour in your use of the expression "ding". Anyway, feel free to ding away whenever you find suitable! ;)

You must forgive me for probably sounding too brutish in my answer, but since english is not my native language, I guess my own sense of humour may sometimes be lost in translation.

All good. LOL

Has anybody suggested the 20 watt Jet City amps? There's a couple versions of them, one more vintage, one more brutal, all Soldano designed.

Engl Ironball....but am looking into picking up either a Splawn Nitro SS or Mesa Boogie Mark V 25...

Re: Good high-gain tube amp for bedroom-level tones?

Hi everyone, thanks so much for the suggestions, as always I get so many great leads from this forum! I'm moving soon, so I'm not going to invest in a new setup until I do (no point in getting a sweet rig and then having to ship it), but I will definitely take all these suggestions into account. Now I just have to find a place that has all of them so I can compare :).

Re: Good high-gain tube amp for bedroom-level tones?

..another thing you could do is get a Vox littel 4 watt ac4 combo with the top boost feature . I suggest this cause it covers a lot of ground that you mentioned. The lil Vox almost goes to Metallaica ..in fact isnt there a band now high gain metal now using Vox that stunned everyone?
For the littel 4 watts Vox's, there wont be much bass to any 1x10 cabinet , so plan on getting a 1x12..but the little dude could get Vox nice cleans up to some really hard rock, and then set to clean and use a dedicatedhigh gain metal pedal pedal... that's cheaping out.. no doubt the MKiv option would be tons better.
Anyway, we need thread on "volume". I lived in an apartment complex when I was 38. I played a little portable radio on my kitchen and the woman upstairs went ballistic..so in those situations, only headphones would work, forget a Randall.
I dig the Randall, and now am really consiodering that s the alternative to waking my 6505 fire breathing beast.
Right now I can open up a full stack, which I do in no means find too loud at all but usually rather spark up a low wattage practice amp just for the time being.

Not read the whole thread, but the Son of Yeti by Ceriatone would be my pick

Mmmm... I've been wanting to try a Yeti for a while now. I dig my Chupacabra, but I feel like the Yeti might fit me a little better because it's supposed to have better classic tones. I was on the verge of trading my Ceriatone JTM45 for a Yeti recently, but the would-be trader of the Yeti backed-out (sold my JTM last week).

Well, the build quality of the two I have bought is first class. I don't have a Yeti, but have the Dumble lunchbox and Princeton clones.
