Good neck humbucker besides 59s and jazz ?

Re: Good neck humbucker besides 59s and jazz ?

Lt. I think you know. Not to diminish your contribution to the beta test.

Yeah,Lt Kojak,not at all.

Just wish they'd get it into production...

Re: Good neck humbucker besides 59s and jazz ?

Looks like my contribution of the beta-testing of the '59/Custom Hybrid Neck prototype, aka "Hy-Bro" I got from MJ, it practically resulted on the dismissal of the Forum pickup project altogether. Sorry for no Corporate butt-kissing and having ears for tone!

Also, since Frank Falbo and Evan Skopp left the Co., no Duncan employee with technical knowledge has ever posted anything on the Forum. Sign of times?

I don't get what the "G" and the "D" stand for?

59/Jazz hybrid is the only Duncan neck pickup that comes close to the response of a scatterwound pickup, and as such, is a stellar pickup, and IT SHOULD BE A PRODUCTION LINE MODEL.

I think they already did it, and they called it "Sentient". Unfortunately, it's been market-targeted to the Br00talz. *sigh*

Kinda understandable. The modern Br00talz crowd LOVES clear and responsive (and scatterwound) PUs.

Am thinking of getting a seth lover neck instead... i read that the seth lover neck is sort of like a jazz but with a tad more warm and not as clinical ? But will it get boomy like the 59s ?

Will it pair up well with the JB ?

Re: Good neck humbucker besides 59s and jazz ?

I'll add a nod for the Screamin' Demon in the neck. Yes, it is a bridge pickup but it also makes an amazing neck pickup. I use it paired with a Demon in the bridge. Crazy enough, there is no volume issue when switching between pickups like typically heard with other same pickups used in the neck and bridge. Try it, you'll be glad you did.

Re: Good neck humbucker besides 59s and jazz ?

Isn't the Sentient higher DCR than either the Jazz N or '59N? Is it a Jazz B/59N or Jazz N/59B hybrid, then?

Re: Good neck humbucker besides 59s and jazz ?

I own the Custom Shop Alpha/Omega set, and the Alpha sounds like exactly what you need. Word on the street is that it's going to be a regular production model soon, so keep a lookout for it.

Unfortunately, that seems to be just the word on the street. I just checked in with the custom shop and sales and they said that there are no such plans.

Re: Good neck humbucker besides 59s and jazz ?

I have an APH-1 bridge and Jazz neck. So far I'm loving this pairing. It does seem the Jazz is higher output as my neck pickup is at a level below the pickup ring and the bridge is pretty close to the strings. I love the tones I get though.

My next pickup set, I may go for a local builder, Sanford Magnetics. Hand wound and prices are similar to SD's. They specialize in vintage style pickups and sound amazing.

Im guessing G means a word for Diety and D is something that beavers build..

Re: Good neck humbucker besides 59s and jazz ?

I'm curious about the Sentient also.

And +1 on the Demon; it really is a great neck pickup.

Re: Good neck humbucker besides 59s and jazz ?

is the sentient really that close to the hybrid pup??
I wouldn't know, as they're not stocked by the Italian importer. You can get'em only by order'em with no possibility of take'em back.

However, just by looking at the pictures, I can tell that both coils are wound with Poly wire. The Hybrid would spec a PE screw coil and a Poly slug coil... but what do I know, uh? ;)
