Goodbye PRS/Hello Protools

Yep, I did it. I sold the PRS CU 24 and bought a Digi 002 rack. I'll have to wait on the Command|24 control surface and the dual G4 or G5 until I sell off some more gear, but I'm in no particular hurry yet. I installed the software onto my P4 1.6 Ghz 516k ram PC and it seems to be running fine. I'm a little below the recommended speed for PC use but it demos fine so I'm sure it'll be fine for now.

It's up and running but it'll take me awhile to get it figured out. I can transfer 8 track from the Fostex to the Digi 002 so I wont lose much of my work, if any of it is even worth keeping.

The new drummer and the V-Drums are set to arrive on Wednesday night so my songs should start having real drumming on them soon.

At least thats the plan!

Not to worry Scott, Robert's got enough wicked guitars!

I've got to get round to getting a computer-studio up an running, i studied Music Technology at college, it'd be a shame to let it go to waste now.

But the reality is i probably won't be able to afford it for a good 5 years.

Re: Goodbye PRS/Hello Protools

I never did like the CU 24 all that much. The tone was killer with the C-5/59n but the trem never worked up to my expectations. I installed a JB/Hot Stack/lil59 into the Strat and I have a JB/JB jr/59 MIJ RG550 and they both sound and play as good as the PRS did, without the trem issues.

With the PRS going out of tune, it never got played. I don't even miss it.

PRS - Over-rated and Overpriced IMHO :smack:

Re: Goodbye PRS/Hello Protools

Re: Goodbye PRS/Hello Protools

I don't know about that Stratman. There is alot of work that goes into those guitars and the finish and fretwork were impeccable. The thing is though that I have a long standing love/hate relationship with trem loaded guitars and I do not have the patients to mess with nuts that hang up on trem loaded guitars. It is my personal curse and they have never worked up to my expectations, which are pretty high.

My Strat has a Shaller Floyd, LSR nut and Sperzal locking tuners. I spent more money getting the trem on that guitar stable than I did on the guitar when I bought it new. I am also on the 4th or 5th set of pickups in the Strat so to get this Strat the way I like it (translated: so I would play it) probably cost me over $1500.00. I only payed $2300 for the CU 24 in 2002 which is only $800 more for a mah/maple set neck guitar.

If the CU 24 had been a fixed bridge guitar it would have been a far harder decision to make.

Re: Goodbye PRS/Hello Protools

Lol I have always messed with vintage trems and the nuts, as I used to be a guitartech before making pedals, my guitars always gets the whole deal.
And I always use Floyds for my extreme tremguitars, and the vintage ones gets a realbone nut that is cut to perfection, pluse the saddles are in primecondition all the time, and I always use highquality strings.
As for PRS guitars, they are good workmanship, they just never made one I liked, plus I find them to be on the slight ecxessive side on price, I can get one of our very highskilled and respected guitarbuilder to make one for less money, and just how I want it.
Plus no dealings with unpleasent persons.

i thought there were PRS custom 24's with fixed bridges..why didn't you get the fixed bridge? Were there no PRS custom 24's with fixed bridges at your shop?

Re: Goodbye PRS/Hello Protools

I bought the CU 24 FOR the trem, I just couldn't get it to work to my liking. I took it in and had the not reslotted for 10s and it worked well for awhile, then it decided not to again.

I have 3 killer LPs and a one of a kind Conkin, why would I want a stop tail PRS?

Re: Goodbye PRS/Hello Protools

My last name was a well kept secret around here. For spilling the beans I must now exterminate you.

Forget the PRS. I have been doing some basic clean recordings with my Strat direct into the Digi 002 and the tone is phenominal. I'm completely stoked. Definately the right move to make for what I am trying to accomplish.
