Got a couple of cheap guitars today

I have been asking how a JB would sound in Alder. So I bought an Alder Yamaha Pacifica. Sounds warm and full I had to add a little treble as expeced. I got it at Sam Ash for $130

I then went to guitar center to look around (my bass player wanted to go there) I was walking around and I saw a PLexi. It was a 1968, $5,500. I almost had to change my pants. I saw a Kramer Striker. Floyd, old cheap price good condition. I took the bait. It did not sound great but I was going to put in a JB and set it up a bit. I bought it. It is PLYWOOD! Does not sound horrible but I cannot keep it now.

Cheap dosent allways mean bad, some of my best guitars are pawn shoe specials. As for a JB in Alder, its bright but nothing your amps EQ cant fix. I have a JB in one of my Jacksons/Alder and it screams. Also you might want to think about a Custom, i have one in my other Jackson/Alder and it also shreds, HARD.

A lot of cheap guitars can sound great, it just depends on your amp and how they're set up I guess...

There's a music store near me that sells a bunch of cheap, chinese, maple copies and sh!t. Nearly bought a maple les paul, probably wouldn't sound too bad with better pickups. Fully bound! Didn't look too bad.

Their tele copy wasn't bad actually. even fender style headstock I'll probably pick up one of their archtop copies soon...

All for under $200

80% of your tone is in your fingers. With the right fingers, you can make anything sound great

That said, I´ve seen 150$ axes that rival my Jacksons. The trick is consistency, I can pick up any USA Jackson and KNOW i´ll have a great axe. But the 150$ strats....there it´ll usually take me a few hours to find one. And Time is money

+1 to that, also what amps effects u use make a lot of diff. I have a JB on guitar that is not warm but brightish un plugged( not overly bright however) but still the JB gives a good decent bass response on it.Yes the shrill hihgs are still there, but not something that cld get very annoying.
Again it cld be cause of my amp, which many says has a good base response.
Also not to forget the secret of good tone is in your fingers.

Yup . . . cheap guitars can be good. I keep singing the praises of my Johnson Strat. Solid alder body, EMG pickups, 3-ply pickguard. A beautiful sunburst finish. Great classic single-coil sound. Its my only non-Duncanized guitar.

Our Squier Bullet, is another story. Its not even plywood - its like some sort of pressed wood-chip thang. Shoddly cut 1-ply pickguard. Sounds thin and lifeless.

Two different animals altogether - both from Indonesia.

I really like the alder yamaha. I have never spent more than $200 on a guitar. I spend my money on the marshall

How should I sell the Kramer? It does not resonate well. I also have a JB in it same modded marshall and it does not respond as well. Should I sell it witht he JB on Ebay or without. All I can expect is $120 for that Kramer without the pup. If I keep the JB I will put it in something else.

yeah, i'm currently also using an alder pacifica with a JB. looking at all the other guitars ,it its cheap. but the thing is , i do really like it and am happy with it

I'm currently changing my mindset. I thought it'd be cool to have a ton of cheap, hot-rodded guitars. Now, I've decided to just have a couple nicer ones.

I'm wrestling with that right now-I've got 500 earmarked for guitar stuff and I'm just stuck in the mud-I need one helluva push...

Instead of buying a couple cheaper ones to fix up, buy one $500 used one that's closer to what you want.

I get bored quick. All I was looking for was a good thin neck and an alder body. The Yamaha is good. I would like to have a custom made one though. When my wife get out of college I will get a better one.

I agree, I'm a buy and hold guy, so I think it will be a chambered strat w/ H-S-S and a Floyd in it. Someday....

I bought a cheap Kramer Striker 100 back in the day it was weak. Later I put a JB in it and it made a huge difference. the thing sounded awesome.

So cheap with the right pickup can help sometimes
