Got a new amp yesterday! + PICS

A little while ago, I asked for advice on getting a small, low wattage, basic tube combo instead of my H&K Triamp mark 1 2x12 combo, which at 45 kilos isn't exactly what one 'd call 'portable'. I never used all of its potential (not the 100 tube watts, nor all six channels, nor the MIDI switching capability) which was a terrible waste in my opinion. So, time for something new.

Well, I GOT something new. But not exactly what I was looking for at first :fingersx:

She's a big 60 watt 1x12 three channel combo, and a pretty one too!

Meet my new Brunetti MC2

I bought this baby secondhand from a local store where she had just been traded in. She came with the flightcase and the footswitch shown in the above pic.

These amps are handmade by a fairly small company in Italy (I guess they're not very familiar in the US, as there is no US distributor currently) at a very reasonable price. The MC2 is a three channel combo without a master volume. There's a clean channel with a three band EQ, input volume and a bright switch, and a reverb control. The crunch and lead channels have a shared EQ and reverb control, but both have their own gain and volume pots. The shared EQ is no problem, although the channels are voiced slightly different. The crunch channel is a tad bright, while the lead channel is a fair bit darker sounding. Still though, it's easy to dial in a good compromise on the EQ. The EQ does not work like most amps, with a center 'zero' position and a boost and cut on either side, but the knobs truly go to zero like on some old Fenders (?). This took some getting used to for me, but now it works very easy.
A five way footswitch is provided to switch channels, switch the reverb on and switch the 'Edge'-function on. Now this is something special: I don't know exactly what the Edge does, but I do know I'll never switch it off again! It just 'opens up' the tone, enhances harmonics on all three channels and...well...just spices up the amp. Cool feature, although I have no idea why they bothered to give you a switching option as I cannot imagine anyone would ever switch it off...

Two more pics for you, the control panel and the rear. As you can see, she's a closed back combo, giving a very tight and full bottomed low end and a lot of low mid punch.

This is one hell of an amp, and I'm very certain she'll stay with me for quite some time :notworthy

I've wondered about that too, but I'm not really bothered by that, as for transport I got a (wellworn) flightcase with it (which you can see in the first pic) and under normal circumstances, nothing should ever be able to harm the tubes.

They are fairly stuck back in there, plus you want to vent the heat. You don't see a lot of amps with the tubes sitting parallel to the floor, but hey, if it works, all power to them! It will definitely make life on heckuva lot easier to see the pin holes when it comes time to change a tube. How many times have you had to turn an amp almost upside down to get a preamp tube in?

They closed up the back completely. I bet the thing is TIGHT! This reminds me of the way some of the old Traynors used to look.

I like the style on the front panel. Old school look to my eyes.

You bet it is! And it has massive low mid punch. Balls to the walls tone in a very portable combo.

Thanx :smokin:
I like it too, nice and clean, and laid out very logically. EQ knobs placed slightly lower, making it very easy to alter your settings even when you're not able to read what's written above or underneath the knobs.

Re: Got a new amp yesterday! + PICS

Are those guitars for left hand players?

Or is the picture ditigally flipped over to make them look that way?

Re: Got a new amp yesterday! + PICS

Cool amp. I've read about Brunetti, and one local store here sells them, but I've never tried one. Looks like a versatile clubbing amp, because I'm sure it handles humbuckers better than most open back combos. I wish I could find one of those heads, used, for a good price.

Re: Got a new amp yesterday! + PICS

Looks nice. I like the understated/functional design. The tubes look plenty safe back there...and easy to change. Thumbs up to the designer.

(I mean come on folks...who really has the back of their 100 watt head or Fender combo on anyway:27: )

Re: Got a new amp yesterday! + PICS

That is really nice. The preamp tubes look nice and snug with those gromets around the sockets, but they look more like recessed sockets. Good idea.

Just bustin' yer chops. :) I just had to answer it, even if it is true. :) :laugh2:

Re: Got a new amp yesterday! + PICS

Tough to compare. Clean is somewhat Fender Twinnish, but glassier and with less low mid balls and less compressed. It sounds very open and lively. The crunch channel does anything from a somewhat AC30-ish clean to a brutal Marshall roar, and is very touch-responsive. With the gain about halfway, it'll crunch heavily when you dig in hard, but cleans up nicely when you move to a more subtle picking style or when you gently roll back the volume pot on your guitar. The lead channel is balls to the walls, brutal, big and fat with massive low end. I never dared to imagine I'd ever be able to get a tone like this from a 1x12 combo! This channel will even tame a bright singlecoil and enable you to get a heavy sound from it.

I hope this answers your question :)

Re: Got a new amp yesterday! + PICS

I wish every combo amp had a removeable back panel, so it could be open or sealed. Italian design = smart and stylish.
