First: thanks to everyone who helped me in my search for a vintage Tele. Prices are just so high on these that the only ones I could find that I'd want to own were close to $10,000..some much more! Makes me wonder what my '54 must be worth these days...oh well, my wife can find out once I'm gone and am playing with the angels. :burnout:

So I found a '53 Telecaster Relic made by the Fender Custom Shop in '03. It's a '53 Reissue...exactly what I wanted. And the owner custom ordered it with a custom 9.5" fretboard radius and medium jumbo frets. Again: exactly what I wanted.

It's light weight and he says it is extrememly resonant. So I bought it.

Hopefully it will show up this week. This is my first guitar from the Fender Custom Shop. I'm pretty jazzed about it!

What I think I'll do with my three Teles once I get them sorted out is:

Duncan Antiquitys in the '53 Relic
Stock original '54 pickups in my old '54
Fralin Blues Specials in my James Burton

That should about cover my Tele needs for the rest of my days!

Thanks again!

Well done Lew, you probably made a wise choice, i was shocked when i looked at the prices of some of those that were recommended to you! As long as you are happy thats what matters, enjoy your new guitar!

I hope so. Plus I have enough left over to get that National Tricone resonator guitar I've been jonesing for! :) I don't miss the four Hamers I sold to finance this project at all...and besides, I kept my favorite one, the Monoco.

I did...think I'll use the $50 to take my wife out to dinner tuesday...it's her birthday. There's a new jazz club in Denver we've been wanting to check out. Lew

Ah, putting the money to a good cause then. Well it is her B'day so i guess there is an ownus on you to take her out! My friend jst asked if u sold seymour duncan precision bass pickups?

Re: Got a new/old Tele!

Lew,

An extremely wise choice, both the guitar and taking your wife out for dinner. I did notice that you had deleted the thread in the Trading Post as you had bought a Tele and I was going to post one myself asking what had you done and where are the pics?

All I can say is don't you dare sell those guitars and give us all that run around again (by the way I did not go back to that guy who was offering that '57 Tele).

I am really pleased that you have got what you wanted and look forward to receiving better pictures when the '03 turns up.

Thanks Norman! I will post some pics when the guitar arrives. Thanks for your efforts too...I really appreciate it. Apparantly that guy had lost a guitar shipped overseas and wasn't willing to ship to the USA. I'll tell ya...overseas shipments can be a real pain...I don't blame him. I don't ship anything overseas or to Canada any more unless it's fully insured, includes tracking numbers, the whole nine yards...even a $60 pickup. To many get lost and to many customers start writing after 10 days wanting to know where thier item is....only to write back a few days later angry...only to write back a few days later saying they now have the item. It gets exhausting having people mad at you over things that are beyond your control...like customs and mail thieves. Anyways, sorry for the rant. I just refunded $165 to someone this morning to avoid a scene and I'm a little POed over it! Hopefully insurance will cover it...in a month or two! Lew

Cheers Lew, he says he will email you soon so that he can improve his old bass by changing his pickups, unless he gets the new guitar hes been trying to buy!

I dunno about that! Is that you in the avatar? I've always wondered! Lew

Re: Got a new/old Tele!

I wish it were me but that is jeff tweedy from wilco, but i have a tele somewhat like that, it will become the esquire and i have a blonde 50's reissue. Not to mention the next guitar that is already in the works, a black (53 specs) tele that blueline is building for me. The blonde one of course looks just lie the one pictured in your first post. Is that guitar reliced in any way?

Re: Got a new/old Tele!

oh by the way, have fun at the jazz club with your wife. It sounds like a great time.

Re: Got a new/old Tele!

Well done, Lew!! That looks like a killer guitar. And to find it with the specs you would have made yourself...sweet!!

Congrats :D

Thanks! That's what made me do it. I was toying with the idea of doing what Curly's always telling me to do: just build one! But if you build one and want to sell it they're not worth much. This one was exactly what I would have built for myself...especially the medium jumbo frets. Thanks again, Lew

Yes it's been reliced. I prefer them that way. When I had my '54 refinished I reliced it on the front like Roy Buchanan's and on the back like my '63 Strat. I didn't have apic of Roy's guitar from the back, so I just copied my old guitar. I figured, at some point in it's life it must have looked like that! I just got the UPS tracking number so maybe it'll show up this week. I'll be gone on retreat again friday through sunday, but I'll take some pics of all three of my Tele's and show 'em off a little when I get back. Lew
