Got a tip for straplocks...

Thought I'd share what I consider to be the ultimate in straplocks. Grolsch beer (German import) has a bottle format that features a ceramic stopper with a clamp instead of the usual metal cap. This includes a rubber washer that is EXACTLY the right size to securely hold a strap to a button. Just take the washer and pop it over the strap button and it will hold the strap very securely. Then just discard the beer safely...:laugh2: These washers are also available at home brewings stores, and they cost almost nothing. Been using them for years and they are great.

I like the idea....
When I was younger I used to take the lids from 35mm film canisters, cut a small slit and POOF I could sling my guitar and it's not going anywhere.
Although a cool look for PUNK and such, has a bit to be desired for Jazz, blues etc... It also doesn't help dress up my Ibanez 335 at all.
As for the Grolsh washer trick, I may have to buy a case and try this will all my guitars..... Or at least try to get around to it after my hangover.

Re: Got a tip for straplocks...

I prefer proper straplocks. I use Schaller, Boston and Dunlop.

Re: Got a tip for straplocks...

I'll take a picture and post it. The problem I had with traditional straplocks, like schallers, is the metal on metal grinding would create metal "dust", get into the pickups, and eventually wear out. I'm sure there are excellent products out there, but these little washers really do the trick!

Re: Got a tip for straplocks...

straplocks are necessary, but i just feel extra scared everytime i strap on either of my guitars with straplocks. it gives me a weird feeling like its gonna pull the strap buttons right out of the guitar, just cuz its sitting there like that. id like to see this washer trick, cuz im not getting an image of it in my head (im slightly retarded i think...)

Re: Got a tip for straplocks...

I'll def post pictures as soon as I can. It's a little red rubber washer, about an inch in diameter, with a little hole in the middle. You put the strap on normally, then pop the strap button thru the hole of the washer, which is smaller that the button, so it kinda stretches, and the washer sits on top of the strap and prevents it from coming off. It's removable, reusable mine have never worn out, and non-invasive and super secure

Re: Got a tip for straplocks...

I don't drink Grolsh... I drink Hieneken... got any unseful (guitar related) tips for us Hieneken drinkers?

I've tried using an empty beer bottle as a slide... needlesss to say, I was kinda drunk... draw your own conclusions... :smack:

Badass. Take a pic of the beer bottle too because I've never seen this beer anywhere. Maybe one of those yuppie grocery stores may be a good place to check out?

As stolen from the LPF.

That's Bernd's burst. He's trusting the Grolsch tabs with a $200k guitar... I'd trust 'em.

Well there ya go.... that's what it looks like. You don't actually need the beer... I got a little bag of about a dozen or so at a store that sells home-brewing kits for something like 5 bucks.

Re: Got a tip for straplocks...

Lol, all the guitar people over here use Grolsch washers!
I think they look cheap but they really work.

The beer is really good!

.....I'd bet on rubber and plastic to wear out long before the metal on metal action would cause any sort of breakdown in the materials.

...and dust? Are you kidding me on this? The amount is so minor it makes the dust generated by picks hitting strings to look like a dumptruck dropping on the dront of your axe every time you sit down to play.

Particularly if they're removed every time when you're done playing.

I guess it's a good enough excuse to have to drink 2 more beers.
