A while back I was looking at wah pedals in the shop and the owner told me he had an old crybaby lying around that he would just give me. Well today I showed up for my guitar lesson and there it was. Its your basic Dunlop original crybaby wah pedal. Definatly has been through some heavy gigging, quite beaten up but it sounds pretty good. I was thinking that since I got the basic pedal free I could upgrade a couple components and get a really sweet wah for not much money at all. I was thinking the potentiometer (I want a slightly smoother sweep) and possibly the inductor. Are either of these mods hard? and what pots or inductors are good for crybaby mods? thanks for the help. Also if you know of any other cool, easy crybaby mods id love to hear about it.

If it's an older wah pedal, then you probably want to mod it for true bypass. The crybabys back in the day were brutal on your tone. And no, none of the mods to an old crybaby are very hard. It's just a bunch of parts and wires under that chasis!

Re: got a wah!!! free!! :D

I was thinking of doing true bypass beacuse it does noticably suck the bass. It isnt enough to make the guitar sound bad though. thanks for the advice.

Re: got a wah!!! free!! :D

The wah should be one of the simplest circuits to mod.For a real killer wah, do a true bypass, change the inductor to a halo replica and change the pot to a Fulltone one.For a true vintage sound, you could look up the schematics and change the ppropriate resistor and cap values too.

I was recently given a used Crybaby 535Q (18V) for free, I'm considering to make it true bypass too. And to have a blue LED built in, to indicate when it's on. That's really something I'm missing :)
