Re: Got a Weber Mass for Christmas!

Ah I'd love to get one, and they are at a great price, but they don't make one that can handle 120W :(

Just don't crank your amp up full blast and hope you get lucky ;).

Re: Got a Weber Mass for Christmas!

If only it were that simple ;)

Lew, would you say that buying one is worth the money or worth passing on?

I would say that if you need an attenuator that doesn't suck the life out of your tone, the MASS is the best value.

I was just cruising around on their site, and found this... a MASS for up to 150 watts

https://weberspeakerscom.secure.powweb.com/weber/mass150.htm

I decided to give the Standard MiniMass a shot, they have one rated for 50 watts which suits the Rectoverb, and since it's ohm switchable (4, 8, or 16) that's plenty of bells and whistles for me. Can't beat it for $100.

Re: Got a Weber Mass for Christmas!

Oh man....that's AWESOME! Thanks!

Time to start saving...

Re: Got a Weber Mass for Christmas!

No prob man, their site has been updated since just the other day, I hadn't seen that before.

Re: Got a Weber Mass for Christmas!

i just was talking to weber today about that 150w model, seems like a cool tone tool. ive had my 100w mass for a year or two and its a great little unit, it doesnt color the tone much at all at lower attenutaion levels. if you are running a 100w marshall at full bore and knocking it down to bedroom volumes youll lose some high end but at less extreme levels its fairly transparent

Re: Got a Weber Mass for Christmas!

Heard any comments about the 50w MiniMass by any chance? I'll be receiving mine sometime next week, so any tips on what to expect are welcome. It doesn't have the tone stack for DI operation like the regular Mass, but it does have treble compensation and ohm switching, pretty much all I need from it. I'm looking forward to it, I have only had a few chances to really get my amp cookin' and I've absolutely loved it.

Re: Got a Weber Mass for Christmas!

a friend of mine has a 50w mass with no options so its basically what the minimass is and its just as good as my 100

Re: Got a Weber Mass for Christmas!

Very cool. Regarding using these units as a DI running straight into a recording interface, is the sound quality decent in a pinch? I'm going to be buying a mic and small mixer in the future but it likely won't be for a few months...

Re: Got a Weber Mass for Christmas!

ive only used it as a di once and it sounded fine

Mine is fully loaded! Even has a bright switch so it gets plenty bright. I've been using it with the bright switch set to the off position. Is it worth the money? SURE! I wish I'd had one of these when I was gigging for a living.

But what I like best is how good it sounds at non-eardamaging volume levels. At 55 my hearing has really taken a beating.

Re: Got a Weber Mass for Christmas!

I was thinking about getting a Weber MiniMASS for my Classic 30, but have a queston. My Classic 30 gets really staticy when I turn it up around 9+. If I use the minimass and crank it up here will it still have this problem?

And I assume running it like this will substantially decrease tube life...?

I'm not crazy about the sounds I get from my amps turned up to 9 or 10 through the Mass. Get's kind of fizzy and grainy.

I think the Mass works best with the amp around 7 or 8 and then the Mass adjusted to the highest volume you or your neighbors or the bartender or bar owner can tolerate. :laugh2:

Cranking the amp to 10 and keeping the Mass at 2 sounds like a bad fuzz pedal to me.

The best tones I've gotten from it are still at low to medium performance volume levels...not bedroom levels.

Re: Got a Weber Mass for Christmas!

Very interesting reviews dudes! Im about to buy a MASS 100 for my SLP1959 project. Im emailing Ted regarding the power handling issue.

Re: Got a Weber Mass for Christmas!

I'm getting a 50 watt rectoverb head and saw that a few of you recto guys were thinking about getting a mini mass. Did any of you get one and how is it working for you?

Trying to decide between one of these or a hotplate.

I don't want to crank my amp completely, just get it to maybe half way atleast and then attenuate it down quite a bit for my bedroom.

Re: Got a Weber Mass for Christmas!

When the hell am I just gonna suck it up and buy one of these?

Re: Got a Weber Mass for Christmas!

I've had a Mini-Mass on order for 3 weeks now. I'd wish they hurry up.
I gave them a call last week and they said they were back ordered. But when I ordered they told me they build to order!!! I'll give them till Friday
I really want this thing
All tube amp mnufacturers should include some type of attenuator so you can heat up the tubes and keep the volume down
How hard can it be?
