Got any music that's DIFFERENT?

Re: Got any music that's DIFFERENT?

oh also check out the band, "HELLA"

PLEASE, for the love of gawd, everyone take this advice!

as far as experemental nuttiness bordering on inane performance art: Need New Body, and Sleepytime Gorilla Museum should do ya just fine.

Also...
A guy named Bob Ostertag once recorded a gay riot in california somewhere, and used computer software to analyze the audio data and extract approximate pitches and rhythmic information from the sound of screams, whistles and glass breaking. He had the Chronos Quartet play the resulting score, and it's called All The Rage. I've yet to hear it, but I've seen the sheet music for sections of it, and it looks freakin' crazy!

Re: Got any music that's DIFFERENT?

I didnt know the Pixies were still rocking it up. i saw them in concert
in the early 90's with the sugarcubes. They put on a good show even thow
they were dressed and looked like homeless people lol.

People have also mentioned alot of electronic bands that i like but this being a guitar forum and from what the original poster said he listened to I hardly doubt that he would would be into stuff like Aphex Twin.
most the new music and bands out there suck so bad i can hardley believe people listen to them and that these people actually get recording contracts.

Most of the bands listed in this thread have been around for awhile, and would hardley consider new. I find myself listening to alot of "older" music just because the new stuff is so bad. Anyone know of any NEW good music?

Re: Got any music that's DIFFERENT?

The Dresden Dolls -- A self titled Brechtian punk cabaret. I don't know what the hell that is. All I know it's weird music by a pissed off chick with a piano.

Sleater-Kinney were my favorite band of the decade (and before). They inspired me to start playing again after taking a near ten year break from guitar.

Re: Got any music that's DIFFERENT?

Music that's different .................. yeah!

It's not worth listening to if it has to be all guitar for you, but for something different flash back to the late 60s and try some of this:

Re: Got any music that's DIFFERENT?

Days of The New

the acoustic brainchild of a genius lunatic --- do me a favor and listen to this song.

Travis Meeks, the aforementioned genius lunatic, somehow managed to create this music, that in the context of the album, and his series of albums (all basically have the same cover, but with different colors, e.g. Yellow album, Green album, Red album) he really creates a new world. It's wild to listen to one of these albums start to finish; especially the Green Album (also referred to as "II")

It sounds like it comes from another time.

Good stuff, I'd also add John Coltrane's later albums. If Rachmaninoff is "out there", I'd also include Debussy, Ravel and Alkan.
