Got me a Laney again.....

Bullet Proof Toneologist
I just snatched up an 87 Pro Tube 100 6 knob. I plugged into one locally and could not say no. The voiceing of the 100 is better than the 50 IMO. I just did a couple simple tweaks ( JCM 800 warming mod) off of the input jacks, which just involved a 470k res/470PF cap removal and placing a 68k resistor in its place. I also put a .68 presence cap and a 250 pF volume cap. That did the trick and I am a happy man!!

I just tossed up a clip in the tips and clips, and when I get a chance, I will do a Laney and PV VTM 120 clip comparison, with the same set up. They have a lot in common...

Re: Got me a Laney again.....

I don't know if this was the Laney (could be sound wise) but that clip on your soundclip that comes up on its own is cool!

I have a 30W combo and don't like its sound. Maybe a new big filter cap will streighten it all I hope but otherwise... meh. Good clean though :laugh2:

I was looking at this thread going "If Kevlar got a Klipp I am going to shoot myself". I get to live :laugh2:

Re: Got me a Laney again.....

Hey that's great Kevlar. :)

When I started reading this post I had double-check the date. I though someone brought back an old one. ;)

You and your old AOR shared some mileage together. It is nice to see old friends.

They just got a Kilpp up there, it was looking right at me as I bought the AOR. 700.00 differnece in price kinda sealed the deal lol. I think that the AOR hangs right in there with my non master heads, so I decided to save some bucks!

It is funny as it does read like one of my old posts. I thought that as I typed it... I am really happy to have one again, it is indeed like finding an old friend...

Re: Got me a Laney again.....

Hey Kevlar,
Wellcome back to the brotherhood. One of the greatest british sound amps ever made. Clip sounds amazing, so that's the warm mod huh? So what type of tubeys you got in that beast now, and what is mr.Tuberamp packaging up for ya?
P.S.
Now you gotta be a regular on Laney-posse.

Thanks Doc!

That amp actually loves EH EL34, I had an extra set and it really provides the right crunch and clarity. In the pre, I tried a bunch. Ended up with a Guild branded Sylvania in V1, it was better than the Amperex Bugel Boy, which suprised me. I have a couple Shuguang in the other positions, they give a nice roundness to the note. The low gain input does not use the 4th tube, but I like a 12AT7 or even a 12AU7 in that position. Really opens up the high gain input. I just got an old organ loaded with some vintage goodies, I have a nice supply of pre tubes to play with.

The Tube Tramp was left out of this purchase, as I had the goods on hand.

I will get to that Laney Forum, tiz a cool place to talk about the 'other' Brit legend... lol

Re: Got me a Laney again.....

So you never tried JJs in Laneys?

I did with the pre tubes, never the power.
I tried Shuguang, Svets, vintage Siemens and EH 6Ca7, the EH el34 skinny botts sounded best to me ears. Not the case with many of my amps, but in a couple they are the shizzle!
