Got me a new amp....

5881's are military spec 6L6's. They were designed to be a bit more compact and durable than commercial 6L6's of the day. They are essentially the same tube and are interchangable with 6L6 tubes.

As far as KT66's I am not sure that can be done properly without a transformer change but I may be confusing them with KT88's.

NOS tubes are pricey and are hit or miss in terms of quality given the extreme age of most of them. Personally I would put a set of JJ 12ax7's in the preamp and a set of Svetlana 6L6's in the power section.

I have 2 Bassman heads. An early 70's silverface and a 66-67 Blackface. The Silverface is stock but the Blackface had the bass channel modded to Marshall style specs. Killed vintage/resale value but it sounds awesome. Fair trade in my book.

the marshall mod sounds cool, but i think i like that channel where it is...

Sorry to keep dragging this thread on, but....

I know several of you reccomended the KT66s. However, the authentic british ones are expensive out the wazoo... so, would the chinese versions work well, or the groove tubes versions?? Which would you say, of the 2, would be better??
