Got me another Laney Pro Tube.. clip

Well, I got a Laney again. I had a 50 watter, traded it after doing a bunch of tweaks to it. I always missed it.... I got my hands on a 100 this week ( 6 knob version) and really dug it, enough that I am again, a proud Laney owner. I did a couple minor tweaks. The 470K res/470pf cap on the input jacks are gone, in its place I put a 68k resistor. I also put a 250pf volume cap, in place of the original. I also added a .68 cap on the presence pot instead of the .1. I am useing the low gain input dimed. ( I love the low input on the AOR line) have a PZM set back 7 feet. Useing a Squier Standard Tele, Weber Mass and an old Traynor cab I just love.

Update, I just did a quickie of my PV VTM with the same set up, kinda cool to hear the difference bewteen the two tube types. Lotta similarites with the amps. The PV is in the high gain input ( sounds better this way), the laney is in the low gain input.

Just me messing around.... Clip 1 is the Laney with el34, Clip two is the VTM with 5881

You do that Lynch thing very well, totally nail the vibe of his moody palm mutes befor bends and pick harmonics, Laney is a little brighter so its closer I think. So let ask this, mic 7 feet away from the cab? no reverb? Also can you elborate on that traynor cab?

That Lynch thing? It doesn't sound like he was going for a lynch thing at all. Anyways great clips kev I actually liked the vtm better, more presence and clarity. I wanted to buy one a few months ago but then changed my mine, now i've ordered a splawn.
I wonder how would the laney and the vtm sound with higher gain settings? Maybe you could make a clip with more preamp gain? I've never heared any high gain clips from you, sure would be cool.

I did not say he was going for Lynch thing entirely, there are licks that very quality Lynch stuff.

Had it run through 6 times or so.....really loved that sound!
Glassy, grinding, roaring, did it all to a t!

LOL very nice! Try the PV clip and tell me what you like better. I dig them both, the breakup is a bit tighter on the VTM. In the room, they are extremely close. Kinda fun.....

Just so you know, I was doing some Back From The Attack stuff, right before I recorded. I have a tape delay going, it is an Ibanez I just love, as well as a bit of verb at mixdown. I don't like totally dry guitars. The mic is a PZM from Radio Shack, been my maing guitar mic for almost 15 years. The Traynor is a 72 2/12. I have a CTS alnico in the top and a Celestion 70 watter in the bottom. The mic is set at the level of the Alnico, it is a really fat, warm speaker, not much crunch. It has become my favorite...

Thanks for the words, I appreaciet it!. All of my pickups are low output, and my set up in terms of speakers is really set up for mid gain breakup. The Alnico just does not have the tightness to jump those notes, so it would end up being a below average sound. I would have to go back to 94 or so, I was useing a lot of drive in those days. Now it feels weird to me.... I am an old man.....:firedevil

BFTA has some George L's greates work, I could see how just gets those things into them on almost riptilean level, I know I do and I don't even learn his songs that much. So is the cab vertical 2X12 ? I love ibanez effects, I have CS-9 re-issue - the best chorus stomp box ever, and Spina modded TS9 re-issue and I am beyond happy, so what is that tape delay by Ibanez that you have?

Nice clips! I think that I like the el-34 amp a little better . . .

Hey Doc,

Sorry I have been a sick mofo and have been off the board a bit. I agree about that album, I think it is their best, I have a lot of fond memories of those days. Had a cassette I cranked in my 73 Torino, I felt the power...

The Traynor is a vert 2/12 really great sounding cab. It is my default for almost all of my recording right now. A friend found it for me really cheap. I was quite pleased. The Ibanez is a DE7 I believe. Just a stomp, but it has a great decay that I just love. I got it real cheap. Heard some clips I loved and went for it.
