got my $70 Chinese 6L6 tube amp in the mail today

Re: got my $70 Chinese 6L6 tube amp in the mail today

GilmourD , both links are working for me.

RM. Their Transformer parameters on the site don't match the cicuit voltage on the H.T. tap. 240v > 260v
The board has 240AC printed on it I think.:D

Have you tried removing the fuse [F1] and testing the tap under no load ?

It's secondary is way more than you need for that circuit.
Your power caps are rated at 450 v, that's a max level.

Re: got my $70 Chinese 6L6 tube amp in the mail today

You need something that has a secondary around 250v , give or take 10v either way, and of course the 6.3v tap.

Put the Chinese amp in a box awaiting replacement PT and built a champ amp today to take its place. PT, spare board, handful of res +caps, OPT, 3 tubes and about 6 hours of work with interruptions. Sounds great, gonna build a little cabinet with a 10" speaker and play my guitar while the Chinese have holiday through Feb 6th. Yeah, and will find some fuzzy carpet tocover the cabinet so it has mojo, whatever that is.

While waiting on the Chinese think will use their 6L6 OPT on this champ, stick a 6L6 in it and see what happens. The Pwr Xfmr has the voltage to run a 6L6 so it should work? Or turn into a pile of smoldering ruble..wouldn't be the first time -

Re: got my $70 Chinese 6L6 tube amp in the mail today

After a week and a half the Chinese finally decided they want their stuff back instead of shipping me a new PT. Once I get the shipping label back the box goes to China, never will know what this GT5 really would sound like.
Chinese logic in this is that they want the amp back to have their worker train to trouble shoot problems.
