Got my Falbo Alpha Series Hollowbody

Our local forumite Frank Falbo is really doing things up right with his new series of guitars. A few months ago I started collaborating with Frank on an all mahogany hollowbody. Most of you guys know I'm pretty traditional in a lot of ways so my guitars was going to not only be an all mahogany body, but it would have a 1-piece mahogany, a rosewood fingerboard, and single ply binding. In a lot of ways I wanted it reminiscent of an old 335 or 345.

Frank talked to me about how lively I wanted the guitar and how worried I was about feedback because that would determine how he tuned the Intension Bridge. Being no stranger to hollowbody guitars and feedback I told him I wanted the guitar as lively as possible. We talked color and being a traditional kind of guy I told Frank I wanted something classic looking between Fender Custom Color or Gibson Classic colors. We ended up going with a faded or washed cherry that picks up a lot of brown on an all mahogany guitar. Being a Big Back to the Future fan I told Frank it needed to look "Marty McFly approved". He delivered, it has a real nice "old" look to it.

I met up with Frank at the Dallas guitar show last weekend and finally picked it up and it did NOT disappoint! The guitar is light, loud, and lively. It has the Fluence Classic Model pickups and the lithium ion battery pack. The voices are all very use-able but I gravitate toward PAF sounds. When I have spent more time wood-shedding with it I'll give you guysa more detailed analysis.

Being a new/modified version of the original hollowbody design I told Frank I was "ok with him pimping it" so you can hear it here on March 16th and 24th when Frank took it to be featured on the Dan Boul Lunch show.

And.....THE PICS!

Frank's Graceful Headstock

The "Oh so Classy" Alpha Logo

The body shot....well most of it. Don't worry I won't quit my day job!

Look Ma, no heel!

Here you can see the guitar is very thin, but explosively loud due to the Intension bridge design

Here is the back plate with the Fluence micro USB charging port for the Lithium Ion Battery

Here I wanted to show a contrast between my Heritage Cherry red top R8 (maple top) and the all mahogany Falbo Hollowbody.

Re: Got my Falbo Alpha Series Hollowbody

I'd almost feel bad ripping out the electronics, and putting in passive stuff. Almost. Btw, what do we have holding the ball ends on the strings under that top?

Re: Got my Falbo Alpha Series Hollowbody

That is stunning. There is not a thing I would change on that guitar.

Hang on... need to stop drooling on my phone!

Wow... truly a work of art! :fing2:

Wow! Being that the body is smaller than, say, a 335, do you get a good hollow tone? Is it balanced weight-wise? I love the design. New, but classic.

Alright, to answer a few questions...

The Fishman pups....they don't sound active. They sound like really good pups. The pack gives you something insane like 300hrs of play time, so about 2 straight weeks of leaving the guitar plugged in, saying you forget to unplug it. Voice one on the neck pup sounds like a 59/Seth Lover lovechild....in my opinion. Voice 2 sounds like something between a T-Top or low-wind humbucker; VERY clear, with tons of chime. On the bridge pup you've got a the same type of PAF tone for Voice 1 but Voice 2 sounds like my late 70s early 80s JB. I mean a LEGIT downright stupid accurate copy.

The actual bridge design...Frank calls it the Intension Bridge. Here is the technology. There is a wood block that attaches to the top that somehow neutralizes the torsion from the strings. The bridge design makes for bare minimum bracing so you get a LOT of speaker type of excursion from the top. The guitar gets the real musical fundamental and fifth type of feedback that the Nuge would be proud to have.

Hopefully Frank will be along and to shed some more light on all of this.

Re: Got my Falbo Alpha Series Hollowbody

Plenty of elucidation on the Falbo website.

It would be hypocritical to grumble about one manufacturer, spamming vibrato replacement parts, and then let Frank get away with plugging his wares.

It gets a really vibrant lively tone. It's a lot deeper of a tone than you'd expect, but the lower bout is 15" which puts it bigger than a 335 by .75"

I don't believe the people spamming vibrato replacement parts are longtime forum members. I also think if there are questions about the vibrato parts the manufacturer is within bounds to answer them. Additionally, I haven't seen Frank "plugging his wares" on here.

For a Superstrat guy, love everything about it but especially the rounded edges on the back :)

Congrats man and Happy New Guitar Day :headbang:

Frank is all about ergonomics and playability and the whole design is proof of that.
