Got my Tonebone Hot British today...its a bit noisy!

Well the tone is awesome that im getting out of this thing and its only playing through the clean channel of my ENGL down very low, and when i switch back to the amps distortion which ive been using up until now it makes it sound like there is a blanket over my amp! The tonebone is just so clear, but its also noisy as hell!

Do you think the noise could be because of the tube type? Or just cos they are noisy pedals?

Re: Got my Tonebone Hot British today...its a bit noisy!

Well... try changing the tube for a new one. It might be picking up RF! :)

What does the noise sound like?

Re: Got my Tonebone Hot British today...its a bit noisy!

Just sounds like the sort of hiss you get in the background from way too much gain, like if you were to turn on a distortion pedal in front of an already high gain amp...but theres a fair bit of it just when its on a managable gain setting on the pedal into a crystal clear channel of the amp!

Re: Got my Tonebone Hot British today...its a bit noisy!

I never got any hiss when i had mine.. and my laney can get pretty noisy! I just found it didnt alter the tone enough, sounded more like an EQ pedal than anything. Glad you are enjoying yours.

Seriously you found it didnt alter the tone enough? Its a pretty drastic pedal with a tone of its own! ...maybe mine IS working properly :fingersx:

Re: Got my Tonebone Hot British today...its a bit noisy!

mine was silent, change the tube out, it may be a little old, its simple enough. I thought it was a great pedal, radial makes some killer stuff. Im attempting to get a coop job there in the next year or so, i hope it actually happens and my uni lets me do it since weve never had a coop in canada...
Cheers

Re: Got my Tonebone Hot British today...its a bit noisy!

What happens when you lower the gain on the pedal and your amp, and blend the two in a more subtle way?

Re: Got my Tonebone Hot British today...its a bit noisy!

Mine was noisy no matter what I had in the tube socket... plus the switch kept failing. I think I got a dud. :(

Re: Got my Tonebone Hot British today...its a bit noisy!

Its interesting that there are just about the same number of people that say this pedal is super noisy to the amount that say its whisper quiet...sounds like there is a bit of variation in the actual units being produced.

And yeah ill have to try blending the gain better with my amp, but i only had the gain up half way and it was considerably noisy. Haven't tried it with the komet yet though...the family was home last night ;)

Re: Got my Tonebone Hot British today...its a bit noisy!

I couldnt really blend mine at all.. it got way too saturated.

Re: Got my Tonebone Hot British today...its a bit noisy!

This is odd!

I have a Tonebone Classic Trimode and it's clean.

Maybe, you did not read the instruction sheet yet?

Re: Got my Tonebone Hot British today...its a bit noisy!

I've had the Hot British for a few years now, and it's probably one of the quietest pedals I own. Even with single coils. Are your guitar and patch cords of a good quality?

Re: Got my Tonebone Hot British today...its a bit noisy!

Well i just used my hot british for the first time in a high volume environment at band practice and it wasn't noisy at all! I simply ran it into the front of my mesa 50cal+ combo on its clean channel and the hot british pretty much turned it into a hot marshall stack...but with the beautiful mesa 50cal clean tone too ;) Seriously this pedal is great, sounds awesome!!!

The only thing i changed from home to rehearsal is that i brought the pedal level down to about 3 o'clock rather than running it flat stick like i was at home when i was getting all that noise.

Think there might be a problem with the switch though because many many times through the night id go to switch it on and all i'd get would be a very faint distorted sound, pretty much nothing really...then id turn it off and on again and it would work! Really weird, its exactly the same problem i was having with my wah pedal, i mean how frustrating is that, two totally different pedals doing the same crap! ......hmmm it couldnt be the cable surely??? Wow id feel like a nong if it was!
