Got some quality time with the new tele today

Just as the title says, I got a couple hours to sit down and get acquainted with the new acquisition. I picked up a set of 9s today and slapped them on, then proceeded to get the action and pickup height set where I wanted them. As I told Scott, my first impressions of the neck were that it might be a tad thin, but the more I played I noticed there was no discomfort and I actually don't mind the profile at all.

Now for the good stuff, how it sounds :). I'll start with the neck pickup. For some reason this is always the spot I try out first when I plug a guitar in. Cleans are great, nice and glassy up top and punchy on the bass without getting too tubby or farting out. Chording is nice and chimey, especially with a bit of chorus. Under gain it thickens up nicely and darkens a bit without getting bogged down, I really like this so far for those smoky blues leads.

Middle pickup sounds pretty good for being some random strat pickup, typical somewhat thin/nasal sounding middle strat position tones, but I love what it adds to the notch positions so in it stays.

Then there's the bridge pickup, not particularly my favorite for cleans but MAN... add just a bit of dirt and smack the strings and you can't help but grin. There is just nothing like that tele bridge tone with some hair behind it. It somehow sounds thin and ballsy at the same time, and it really can pull off just about any style, but you can always tell exactly what you're listening to.

Anyways, I know it's still the honeymoon period but I'm having a blast with this guitar right now so I think it's safe to proclaim it a keeper. Scott was kind enough to offer me a few days to play it before making a final decision to keep it or not, but I think it's a no-brainer. This will make a great sister to my strat, hopefully I can keep it in the family for a while.
