Re: Got the green light for a new amp

Hmmmm. Lots of good options here boys.

I could handle that 5150iii or a 6505+ under 7 bills.

I could go for an egnater Armageddon... Just never heard one with my own ears yet... Found one at 7 bills.

Re: Got the green light for a new amp

I got my JVM410 for just under a grand. Best amp I’ve ever owned, but only because I haven’t bought a Dual Rectifier yet. Those are easily worth what they go for, if you like that sound.

Re: Got the green light for a new amp

If you can give the Mesa Triple Crown a try. 50 or better yet the 100.
It can get some damn heavy on the gain channels.

Re: Got the green light for a new amp

I just grabbed a H&K TubeMeister 40 off eBay for 650 as an open box deal. Music123 has 4 more of them and a bunch of grandmeister 40’s for $765. Probably a lot of other brands as well.

PayPal has 24 months 0% on stuff over $600 through eBay too.

Re: Got the green light for a new amp

I suggest just gritting your teeth for awhile and hawking the local CL until something wicked this way comes.
Let the right amp find you. Easier said than done though.

$700 basically means listed for between $800 and $1000, so anything is possible really.

Re: Got the green light for a new amp

In the price range you are talking you need to find a PRS MT15 and play it.
Trust me on this I have looked hard at this amp and the tones you seem to like are similar to what I like. Don't even look at the wattage as this amp absolutely is a BEAST and in no way sounds like an amp that you normally would think of in that power range. It feels like a really good 50 watt amp when you play it. Sat down with one an a 5150 50 watt with the EL 34's and would have walked out with the PRS hands down had I had the $ on hand!
I personally think it is an insainly good deal at the price point with the build quality and tone it has!!

If I don't spend it quickly, it'll be gone....that's how wives work.

Got one to so yep understand!
For real take a hard look at the PRS MT 15 man it's a BEAST and LOUD as heck in spite of the power rating. Best buy on a new high gain amp anywhere near that $700 price point!! And this is from a guy who was a hair band player plus owns 2 Boogies a vintage Hot Rod Mod Carvin and one of Bruce Zinkys beasts.

I haven’t had a chance to play one but I did see a YouTube video of Mark demoing it. It’s got some great tones in it.

Re: Got the green light for a new amp

I'm sure that it's a great amp, but 15 watts probably won't provide the same kick in the chest as a 50 or greater watt head.

Re: Got the green light for a new amp

There's a guy near me selling a 6505+ 1x12 combo for $450. I don't think I've ever played one, but love the tones from a lot of people who do use them.

Voted Dual Recto. I'm glad it's finally acceptable to say you like those. About 10 years ago on here, everybody called them Rectum-friers and said they sounded like a can of bees.

Re: Got the green light for a new amp

I love Rectifiers. I don’t care what anyone thinks about that.

Re: Got the green light for a new amp

Just thought of an amp head I tried many, many years ago and honestly I don't know if it was just OK or properly great, but who knows:

Might be worth a shot, right?

Those have serious reliability issues. Seen a few come through Pawn shops I have worked in and they rarely don't have some issue. When their right they sound good but that particular amp I have seen way to many with problems!

They run a pair of 6L6's at low grid voltage like the little Soldano Hot Rod 25 does not EL84's or 6V6's. Trust me they are not lacking in bottom end punch! Same concept as these! Marshall is doing the same thing with EL34's in their new 20 watt heads BYW. They don't feel like say a Orange terror no they punch like a 50 watt amp on the bottom!

XXX.... Carvin V3??

A full size V3 would get you there as would one of the last of the Series IV X100 heads and think both are a little better built than the XXX is.
Here is my ol buddy Keith Miller with a demo of his X100
