So I got to crank my 5150 the other day in my drummers garage, and man, did it ROCK! :headbang:

I had two of the power tubes pulled, so it was only 60 watts, and with the volume on 4, it was more than loud enough, and it sounded good! I can't believe how ridiculously loud these things are!:smack: My drummer is 6' 11", all muscle, the biggest black dude you will ever meet, and quite possibly the loudest drummer on earth. If I turned the 5150 up to around 7, it completely drowned out his drum kit.:eek13: Why would anybody ever need more than a 60 watt tube head!? I can't imagine someone needing a 100 watt tube halfstack for anything, and I play metal!:smack:

THats just a myth that teenagers love to believe in, like myself, but I long ago left the idea of 100W+ behind, I must admit, I think im gonna be a sucker for PV's new 120 WATT windsor, but Im gonna pull out the tubes just like you did, I hate that planned anyway

5150's sound great! :D:D:D "The Man" did invent them anyway

You're jamming with the drummer of Suffocation? First you score a killer amp, now this. :yell:

Re: Got to crank my 5150 the other day. : )

I cranked out to 8 with all the tubes in it last night. My parents down stairs had the TV up as loud as it would go and it was still being completely drown out.

I think I actually like the 120watts. :D

Oh and don't let the cabs get near a TV, it made a big purple spot on ours so I had to use a magnet and keep drawing the purple spot out till it went away. Those speakers must have some monster magnets in them!

Btw what was the tonal difference of having 2 of the tubes pulled? I mean I expect a drop in volume but will it thicken up or thin out?

Actually, my drummer is my next door neighbor, his name's Scott H., you should check out his band Unending Blame on myspace, he's a cool dude, he's the singer in UB, and drums in his spare time. He's the one who pushes me the most, I wouldn't even be playing electric guitar if it weren't for Scott. He's always pushing me to get my riffs and playing tighter, to learn new things, and get professional gear. I'll have to put some clips up of our project/jam stuff.

loudest i've ever used my 5150 with the 4x12 was around half way on the rythym and one high for the solo channel..... i was playing at a golf courses closeing night party and had no PA for mic'ing my amp.... It was also a great reason to get to open it up a bit.... indoor shows at bars and stuff the loudest i'd have it is 3-4 on the dial.... sometimes lower and sometimes louder... depending on the cab i used...

IT IS A POWERFUL BEAST!!!!! All that pregain makes up for not being able to crank it i guess..... It is a real stage amp meant for pro arena use i guess. But even then the pros are running smaller amps/volume on stage as well since modern PA's have come a long way. Either way i enjoy the sound of it

5150's stop getting louder at about 5 - after that it's more compression and buzz.

I record with mine on 2, practice with a band at 3, and gig at 4.
