NO WAY! My friend Dave wanted to warm up his strat so I put in a set of the Graph-Tecs and a High Order 8.75k/A2 bucker thru a 250k pot. Thru his Line 6 on the JCM 800 setting it was like Fair Warning! Hot dark and fat, but not muddy.
The Graph-Tecs help round the tone out a bit, less tinny, in addition to the other benefits. I think they came up with the ferraglide for people who want normal looking saddles. I think the black saddles look sharp tho. He has his on a gold bridge, looks awesome.
In my limited experience with a MIM Strat, the Graph Tech saddles seemed to warm up the tone and make it a bit less brittle (a good thing for that guitar). However, someday I'll put steel saddles back under the wound strings even though it will look a bit funny.
BTW haven't broken a string more than once or twice since the saddle change
i'm about to buy then modify another MIM strat using all graph tech stuff...saddles and nut. once the guitar and all the parts for this creation get here i'll let you know how they work out since all my other strats have metal saddles and this will be my first time using graphite for saddles and nut. i'm hoping with the 3 hot rails and 500K pots i'm putting in it it will be one mean "metal" strat with a nice low end...we'll see....
