Great acoustic strings?

Hey guys...

I've started to play more acoustic lately.. But the thing is the strings on my acoustic are horrible.. I'm used to Slinkies on my electric. I was wondering what's a good acoustic string brand to get? Some that are light, and good for bends, but have good tone. I tried elixirs once. They sounded great with chords, but they the coating felt like it made the bending suck. Anyway, recommend me some great acoustic strings that are cheap.. I don't think I like coating.. CHEAP AND GOOD IS THE KEY! Thankss..

Re: Great acoustic strings?

I like DR strings on my acoustic. Great tone and they don't feel stiff for the guage.

Well.. what's the thinner coating called? Someone help me out here.. I'll check into the DR's

Re: Great acoustic strings?

the nanoweb elixirs, have a set on my taylor, i can bend em pretty well, about as good as you can get on an acoustic. still sound really good, i've had em on there for about 4 months now

Dean Markley Alchemy strings. they're coated, but I find them to have a better feel, they bend well, and the goldbronze gives it a really smooth sound.

second choice is the elixir polywebs. loves those too. both strings last forever, which is another plus.

Yeah, the Nanoweb Elixirs are the best sounding, IMO, but seriously, who wants to pay $13 for strings every time you buy them? Frankly, until I start making serious money off guitar, I'm not blowing that much on strings.

I used Elixirs for about 3 months until switching to Ernie Ball Earthwoods, which I have in right now. I like them, but will probably swich to Dean Markleys to see how they turn out. But the Earthwoods sound nice.
