Great video from Josh on the cost of pedals

It’s great, and he handled the criticism and misinformation as calmly and professionally as I think anyone could have. It makes me more willing to pay the premium for his products.
 
that was a good video. and the guy who made the original is a twit, but theres lots of them out there. watching him disassemble the pedals was making me twitch, not surprised he broke one
 
Yeah, the dude who made the original video Josh is reacting to is a dolt.

I noticed Josh was careful about how he worded some things and there were some details he left out, but for the most part, it was a generous response to an idiot who didn't deserve any screen time.
 
That was a good video on business period. Most people are merely cogs in the wheel and have no idea how things really run, from the perspective of owning the business, paying for materials and people, and then selling either B2B or B2C, and making money.

If they did - they would act and talk very very differently.
 
I used to have very similar ideas as the guy in the original video.

But now, having built a few pedals from scratch - the electronics, boards (I use cheap prototyping tagboards), pots, enclosure, switches, jacks can usually be had for pretty cheap. 50-70$ for a complex pedal. For a simple fuzz maybe even as low as 45-50$. The time taken for assembly, testing, debugging, tweaking circuits, and actually having a finished product is hours though. I like doing this as a labour of love and for fun, but would never be able to actually sell pedals at volume for as cheap as Josh does and make a living.
 
Certainly a fair amount of traffic generated on this particular topic, not taking anything away from Josh but the whole series of 3 episodes - questions, answers, apology - appears to be nicely put together. Hopefully I won't come across as too cynical, just offering another perspective.
 
This was business 101. Josh simply explained how manufacturing, supply chain and labor operates. His model could be applied to building a DYI pedal, a car or a home. It is sad he had to reply to the OP on a kindergarten level for the OP to understand his business model.
 
Josh has always been a pretty down to earth and transparent guy. He's also pretty dang funny.

The vid in the OP sent me down a YouTube rabbit hole watching Josh's pedal videos, and now I have a long list of stuff I want to buy. Thank you for that.
