I used to have very similar ideas as the guy in the original video.
But now, having built a few pedals from scratch - the electronics, boards (I use cheap prototyping tagboards), pots, enclosure, switches, jacks can usually be had for pretty cheap. 50-70$ for a complex pedal. For a simple fuzz maybe even as low as 45-50$. The time taken for assembly, testing, debugging, tweaking circuits, and actually having a finished product is hours though. I like doing this as a labour of love and for fun, but would never be able to actually sell pedals at volume for as cheap as Josh does and make a living.
