Gotcha. And yeah, I know exactly where it is. Lots of people I went to school with took classes there to get college credit.

And the correct name of the axe is "Mean Green Semi-Hollow Machine"...;)

Keep the white knobs, it's a different than the rest classy look.

Thanks Russford, and yeah you're right. I just don't like typing that out every time. :)

Sell his guitar is a cross between mine, it's my Duo Jet, with the paintjob of the Green buddy.

I wouldn't mind to get another Duo Jet in the Cadillac Green finish, I think they kick some ass.

Not at all.... Al's guitar is a hollowbody, mine is chambered. Not even the same model if his was a Gretsch. I think he has a nice guitar that with a real setup, could very well be a diamond in the rough. It looks pretty sweet to me.

The knobs are just personal preference, to each his own. No matter what it's still a cool guitar.

Why replace the neck? Is making one cheaper than removing the board, replacing the rod and put it all back together or won't it survive the op? I think is its a matter of price you should have the new neck made, keep the old one and get it worked on when you can afford it.

As for the knobs... White rod cover, the nut looks too white, white pup rings... keep the knobs.

Thanks dude! I've always wanted to give it a real setup, but a few factors always kept it from being truly awesome. The busted nut, the lackluster bridge, the poor truss rod, and the worn down frets. I replaced the nut and the bridge, and as soon as the truss rod is replaced and the frets are redone, this guitar will kill.

I tightened some strings the other day, and with the new bridge and nut this already felt better. With new frets and a proper truss rod/setup, I can legitimately see this guitar getting as much playtime as my Duo Jet.

Thanks Luis! The old neck is structurally not sound, basically. The wood is cracking by the truss rod nut, and where you screw it into the body. It wouldn't be cheaper to build a new one, but I think it would be smarter in the long run. I think it'll play better.

Nut looks too white huh? Yeah, it's synthetic, not bone.

Oh... go with with a new one, then.

AND KEEP THE ZERO FRET! :P

Re: Green Buddy Update: 1955 Melita Bridge Pictorial (more pics than you ever wanted!

About the knobs, I agree. They're friggin perfect. But I refuse to be a poser, it'd be ridiculous to put Gretsch knobs on something that's not a Gretsch. So we'll see! She's far from done, and I know that.

Saw these and thought about your guitar for some reason... knew we had talked about the knobs.

Check out the knobs/miscellaneous section, or search for part P-K310. .75" diameter might be a little bigger than you're used to, but they have almost the right look.

Wow thanks Mike! You know those knobs might work. I've bookmarked the page.

Thank you very much for thinking about it. It'll take me about 5 months of looking at the knobs every day to decide if I like them enough to take the plunge, but I really appreciate it.

Re: Green Buddy Update: 1955 Melita Bridge Pictorial (more pics than you ever wanted!

I know this an old post but I just noticed the plastic base on you Melita. This is very unusual as the other dozens of these I have had are spring metal but I recently acquired one just like yours and my black plastic conneting piece on the base where the spring metal is on all the others has the correct patent number printed in the middle of it. Does yours also have a patent number printed in the plastic no shown in the photo's. I am surprised no one else mentioned this odd and rare incarnation of the Melita.
I love Melita's. Thanks for the pics.

Did you notice Bi Gal was banned about four years ago? Zombie thread from the fun old days.

No I didn't thanks......couldn't find much info on other sites about the all plastic base bottom on this Melita but obviously it did exist in the 50's. With the really good pics He put up I though someone would have caught the rarity and commented.....funny.
