Gretsch and high gain ??

Re: Gretsch and high gain ??

Are the pickups specifically bad or just the worst part on the guitar, but not specifically bad ?
On the site it says the Appetite has Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro Slash pups !!

Btw is there any chance you know which Hollowbody is being played at the Down show ?? and thanks ! :)

That's what I meant ... the pickups are usually the worst thing EXCEPT on the Slash model.

Re: Gretsch and high gain ??

Oh okay cool :D

on every site (musicians friend, zzounds, ect) its no longer available, i assume they discontinued it.

Another cool option is the Epi LP Std Plus Top Trans Amber, and getting a JB/59 Zebra set and replace the Epi pups on it. Looks and sounds great i would assume with that upgrade.

Thanks fowl2338 :)

Re: Gretsch and high gain ??

A Gretsch White Falcon has been known to get played in my house with alot of gain, volume, distortion through a Marshall JVM410H stack, a Peavey 5150 stack, and a Blackstar HT-5.

Re: Gretsch and high gain ??

Can FilterTrons be repalced without routing ?

No, the route is smaller. Trons or Sonics=Gretsch Tone. Also FYI the Electromatics have pretty beefy necks.

If you don't want the tron or sonic sound you should probably go for a Gibson or Epi hollow since you'll have buckers.

Another point, the A2Ps in the slash guitars are RADICALLY different from a JB/Jazz.

BTW no one said you had to go to someone's house to play a used guitar. I've met people at McDonalds even to look at guitars. You also can't claim you wanna plug it in since you're wanting to rip everything out.

I'm just throwing this out there, but your posts reminde of a fairly new guitarist who doesn't know exactly what they want. Nothing wrong wintry, we've all been there. I suggest going to every store, and chasing down every used guitar that piques your interest. That's the only way you'll find what fits you.

Actually i'm a young guitarist of 6 years now, but only recently have i gotten interested in hardware, electronics, upgrades ect, which is why i joined this forum.

And second, i can claim that i wanna plug it in, because what if the rest of the electronics dont work....i dont want a more expensive repair job then the guitar itself.

And many people mentioned that 'its not about the fact that its a hollowbody, but the pickups' so if i found a guitar that was perfec aesthetically, built strongly and made with quality but i wanted to switch the pups cause i wanted a different sound, i see nothing wrong with that. Pickups are bought individually to swap other pickups, so im wondering if theres any chance that FilterTrons and std humbuckers are the same size.

Re: Gretsch and high gain ??

I LOVE Gretsch guitars with hi-gain amps . . . what a beautifull contrast. (sound wise and visually)

Re: Gretsch and high gain ??

Thanks a bunch for the pictures ! I have faith in the Gretsch + Gain sound ! It makes such a big wall of sound with every chord, and sounds great for rock ! The clean tones are unspeakably good !

And for the earlier post, i am not PLANNING on changing these stock pickups they sound great ! i was simply curious.

unless you're buying a really, REALLY cheap piece of crap that's worth it's weight in firewood, that's not going to happen. you want to change out the pickups anyway. even if you want to pay a tech to completely redo the wiring, it'll only cost you about $50 plus parts, and it's only the cost of parts if you want to learn how to use a soldering iron yourself.

Re: Gretsch and high gain ??

Well i am exagerating a bit :$ but point is, a used guitar should function as well as a new one even if it doesnt look the same.

Does any of that include metal ??

What do people think about Gretsch guitars with high gain ??? I absolutely love how Gretsch guitars look omg ! but i am aware that these guitars are usually not made for alt metal/hard rock

They could not sound any nicer on clean !!

Would it be such a terrible idea to grab one ?? or would i have to swap the pups ??

Something like the one at the top

I know this is NOT a hi-gain tone, and it is not even a Gretsch, but it does have real TV Jones pick ups in there, so the guitar is somewhat Gretschy'fied, if you know what i mean.

. . . and hell, that IS a beautifull tone !

And who says a Gretsch can not do Alt Metal / Hard Rock / Good Music ?

Ever seen this 'lil band in the 90s ?
