If you want twang in your gain then get a Gretch!! :laugh2: . From my experience the Gretch are much closer to a "fender single coil" than to a humbucker. Which it isn't a bad thing at all. They just have their tonal range..

LOL. I dont think they'd fit though, Gretsch's have humbuckers but they are smaller in size then standard buckers.

But yeah I totally agree. Anybody wanting more output from they their Gretsch could send the pups to Duncan and have them rewound.

SD already makes a Setzer Custom Shop set.

Re: Gretsch.....what do you think??

Anybody here remember a band called Kansas? If you do I think you'll get my point about Gretschs and Rock-n-Roll.

I had a friend, a definiate speed demon, who bought a Gretsch, packed if with foam and kept on rockin'. Imagine Vernon Reid with a Hollowbody and you're pretty close to Randall's guitar style.

That said, the Gretsch isn't going to hold it's value like a '77 Strat or a PRS McCarty, IMO.

Re: Gretsch.....what do you think??

I've always dug them, but I don't think they are for every body.

Clean rhythm is where it's at with these guitars. They are bright and have an acoustic like bite to them, and some twang if that makes any sense. They can do overdriven tones very well. I wouldn't call them really heavy rock guitars because I think there are much better choices, but for classic rock they work wonders.

They work for blues rock and I've contemplated getting one, but I need a guitar that can get warm on one song, bright on another, thin on one song, thick on another etc. That's pretty much why I stick with H-S-S styled guitars with blend pots, it allows me to get sounds from both single coil and humbucker styled guitars and even some fun stuff in between.

With all that said, I've always dug Hollowbodies myself. They look cool, feel right, and I like the "airiness" around the notes.

Re: Gretsch.....what do you think??

have you ever played just the neck position on a falcon?

it's about as warm as you can get

Yeah, I've noticed some "harder" bands using Ricks as well.

Re: Gretsch.....what do you think??

If any of you guys are interested in something similar to a Gretsch, but WAY cheap, check out the DeArmond guitars, which were only available for 3 years in the mid 90's.
I'm a HUGE fan of DeArmonds, only because they feel like an $800 guitar, but sell for pennies on the dollar. I just bought this yesterday. I sold 2 sets of crappy Gibson pickups to pay for the whole thing! LOL These guitars have cool sounding pickups, too. Get this....only $275 !!!!
