Grounding issue? Methinks so

So I was using my strat at practice the other week and I notice that it's humming more than usual. Like, really loud. I deal with it, but I notice that if I touch the cable, it goes away, and I'm left with the regular amount of noise I'd expect from an SSS strat.

I tried another cable and it still had the issue. I also tried another guitar with my cable and it didn't have the issue. Is something improperly grounded?

Re: Grounding issue? Methinks so

If you touch the strings or bridge it should go away too. But if only touching the cable fixes it my guess would be a loose jack.

Re: Grounding issue? Methinks so

It should get better when you touch the strings, the same way it does now when you touch the plug.

Re: Grounding issue? Methinks so

Bad jack. Sometimes you can tighten the "arms" of the jack to make better contact with the plug. Otherwise, you need to replace the jack.
