Guess the Gibson price changes weren't a joke. Check this mess out

Re: Guess the Gibson price changes weren't a joke. Check this mess out

Ok I know I am rehashing what I said earlier but "Who Gives a Poop™ " ?

If you're a Gibson whore you'll still buy it like those guys above, if you're not a total and ultimate fanboy then there are AT LEAST half a dozen other manufacturers that make (IMHO) a (much) better product for about half what it USED to cost so why this whole song and dance?

I seriously think all this bashing comes from
(a) guys that just can't help themselves taking a swing at Gibson on every chance they get (which I admit comes very easily and is a bit of fun seeing as I've done it once or twice in the past too)
and
(b) guys that ARE Gibson whores but cry about it because they can't afford them to which I say either wisen up and move on or if you can't, save up and buy used.

Want a cool LP(ish) guitar? There's Heritage, there Carvin with their hundreds of customization options, there's ESP, there's PRS (ok not cheaper but certainly better for the price), there's Taylor SolidBody (love those!), there's the Tom Anderson Atom and that's just me thinking off the top of my head TOP-END, BOUTIQUE guitars.
Sure they are of varied similarity to a Gibson LP from exactly the same (Heritage) to not-so-much-but-still-somehat-like-it (Taylor/Atom) but that's the beauty of it. You get to choose from faithful to playful and authentic to innovative, in short, something for everyone.

I do understand how it's fun to bash Gibson but just get over it, get over THEM.
Really...

It isn't fun to bash Gibson. It pains me that they deserve such bashing. I would not be bothered by their **** so much if I didn't WANT to like them in the first place - if I didn't want every American guitar company – especially the old brand names – to be flat-out awesome. I am no fanboy or basher. I just calls 'em as I sees 'em. I've owned, and still own, dozens of Gibsons over the years, from every decade back to the '20's. I love the good ones, I hate the bad ones, and I feel somewhere in between on the entire spectrum in between; it's as simple as that. I feel that bashing Gibson in this day and age is really not that far removed from simply being objective. Just as their Norlin days were crap, and deserved the bashing they got, this era of Gibson deserves it too; it's even worse than the Norlin days. You can't get that upset or incredulous at anyone for simply calling a spade a spade.

I'm not bashing. I'm just in shock. I'd be interested to hear from a Gibson rep on why prices jumped so much.

Look on the bright side: If you buy a Standard, you'll save enough money off of list price to buy a USA Jackson, or an American Standard Stratocaster and an American Standard Telecaster.

Not bashing, just rethinking my priorities and comparing this to how I felt back in olden times when a new Les Paul Classic was $1,800 and I could have bought one with my bonus that year.

I have good news for you. A new Les Paul Classic is $1800 still. It is currently olden times apparently.

Guys I never said it wasn't either objective OR a fair assessment and I kinda understand wanting them to rock and being disappointment that they suck so much. My point was that there's no coming back so instead of crying over spilled milk, simply move on. There are better alternatives today, you just gotta get past the name and shape of the headstock.
Nope I don't. Just like I don't want a meatish steak.
Hey, whatever tickles your fancy. It's not my money you're spending away.

No. That part there. I wonder who's the genius who thought that a Strat bridge SC isn't bright enough.
You serious? It's a tone control with a detent that takes it out of the circuit on full. Otherwise it's a normal 250 k tone control. It IS genius. It gives you a bridge tone control that is bypassable giving you vintage and modern tone without altering the appearance of the instrument.

I know what it does. I use one (self-modded) with humbuckers. But now that you mentioned it, yeah it slipped my mind that vintage strats only have tone control for the neck and middle positions.

If it weren't for Fender, also being an iconic brand, and simultaneously available to the beginner as a $400 amp/guitar start combo kit, and being a favorite of many rock legends, there would be a lot less reason to bash Gibson. It's the contrast of the two that makes Gibson's business decisions such a spectacle. Where you might expect their innovations to be cost effective ways of producing a guitar of the same high quality so that you could get the same nice guitar with a smaller price tag, their innovation seems to be the exact opposite: find ways to jack up the price without changing much of anything. Again, if it were not for Fender, I might not know any better, I might not really question it.

Hey, whatever tickles your fancy. It's not my money you're spending away.

This issue was not about what people have the right to spend their money on, the issue is how that spending decision reflects on their character. Gibson fans can say, to paraphrase, "it's my money to waste", sure thing, but that's not going to stop the rest of the world from passing judgement.

Re: Guess the Gibson price changes weren't a joke. Check this mess out

This got weird fast.

I just wanted to point out some pricing hikes that were rumored and now verified.

Mostly cuz I want a Les Paul at a good price which looks like it will be from the 2014 year end (hopeful) blowout

The end
