Just love the little cyclonic dude
The lowdown?
AWESOME.
The color was supposed to be yellow, graffitti yellow with white perloid single ply guard, but for some reason they sent this metallic golden copper finish with the 3 ply tort guard... I like it, it's different from all cyclones I've seen online and from what I'm told it's the last one they had in the factory's storage. I don't know if I believe that but it's a nice story. I won't be refinishing it anytime soon, I may change some hardware but not the finish.
MIM Fender Cyclone... oh, yeah. Nice heavy piece of wood but without being too heavy, lets call it noticable.
Unplugged? I'd reckon it's pretty loud and sweet, loud enough to get my mom looking to see where the sound was coming from and she knew there was no amp. Loud enough to tune with my cheap Yamaha tuner (don't know if this happens with all guitars but I like that it does here).
Plugged in? The Texas pup is really warm to me, exactly what I wanted in a neck pup, it won't be going anywhere soon. The Atomic is another story, I haven't cranked the amp just yet but from what I can tell it's about doble as hot as the neck pup so for now it's just to get some crunch, gonna try some leads with it tomorrow. The middle position is pretty cool, really the best of both worlds. Just for info I'm running this into my cheap EKO K-100 amp (it's a joke of an solid state practice amp but sounds relativelly ok to me)
Specs? The neck feels great, nice shape and the fact that it's one full inch smaller than I'm used to shows. Fret access is awesome, no sharp edges and no buzzing and you gotta love the medium jumbo frets.
I do have a small beef with the finish, near the neck joint there's a finish check that looks like a crack in the wood and by the elbow contour there's a small area with a few checks... nothing big but just mentioning it as it's a bit annoying but forgivable. I also don't get why the pup selector tip is black as is the vibrato tip but the back shield is white. Not something that will make me hate the guitar but it's confusing (just not enough to warrant replacing any of those parts because of this discrepancy)
What more can I say?...
Oh, I hate the vibrato. It doesn't detune (haven't had the problems some claimed with the tuners either) but I had never really tried a guitar with a vibrato, a lot of fenders but no one used the vibrato, I just found out today you pressured the bar up and down to get it to work instead of spinning the damn thing around it's axis. I admit , I'm a noob. Maybe with time I'll come to find a use for it but for now it rests inside the gig bag.
Just love the guitar.
In case you're wondering, 712€ (21% tax bit my butt) :yell: but worth every cent.
I don't think I'll ever need to buy a new guitar... unless it brakes down or someone steals it and then it's a matter of getting a custom shop to make me a replica. (On the Fly opinion, lets see how I feel after a few more months or years)
Feel free to comment. I'm happy even if this means I can't get my drivers license for another year. =)
