Guest Luthier Series - Jol Dantzig (Hamer) Wed. 09/09/09 10-5 Eastern

Re: Guest Luthier Series - Jol Dantzig (Hamer) Wed. 09/09/09 10-5 Eastern

Now, logically Jol would be in contact with the winner to learn about his or hers playing style and such. Not every setup is great for every player.

Am I correct in my assumption?

This is really great and really generous. The only problem, I have Duncans in all my guitars already! LOL! But someone else is going to get a great gift!

Correct. So Jol and Seymour will make the pickup recommendation based on the particulars of the instrument and the winner's playing style and preferences. Thanks for that clarification, beandip.

:(

My Parkers don't have standard production pups. My Ibie already has a Crazy 8 in it.

Jol has been doing this longer than we've been alive, I don't think you have to worry about him not being thorough.

That is awesome! I'd ask for a set of Distortions like those I had to sell of to make ends-meet a couple years back. :D

Outstanding :D

I know I have no chance but still, great offer.

This is of course way too much (Jol's offer) for foreign bro's but can we keep some of the surprises (like the strap) for worldwide members?

Just crossing the T's and dotting the I's is all. I figured he would, but just wanted to double check.

Last thing you want is a setup that only involves your favorite set of strings, and you have no say otherwise.

Sure. In fact the guitar strap in last week's giveaway was won by KeeperOS who's in Greece.

Re: Guest Luthier Series - Jol Dantzig (Hamer) Wed. 09/09/09 10-5 Eastern

Get this. Jol just called me and said, “I've got an idea for the forum. At the end of my appearance on Wednesday, a randomly selected participant will win a cool prize. I'll pay to pick up their guitar and bring it to my workshop where I'll do a full soup-to-nuts setup on it. I'll intonate it. Adjust the truss rod. Dress the frets. Clean and lubricate it. It’ll play like a dream when I'm done with it. And the lucky winner can follow the day-to-day progress on my blog.”

When I heard this, I was totally psyched. And I said, “Maybe Seymour can consult on a set of pickups.” “Sure,” Jol said. “I’ll play it and see where I think the current pickups are lacking and Seymour and I will pick a set for the winner and I'll drop them in.”

So there you have it. Any electric guitar or bass set-up personally by Jol Dantzig. Pickup selection by Seymour. All documented for the world to see on Jol's blog.

Now, the fine print. The guitar can’t be a total basket case. It has to be a reasonably playable solid body or semi-hollow electric or electric bass. Also, to qualify for free pickups, it has to use standard production model pickups like Gibson-size humbuckers or Fender-size single coils. And finally, because Jol is generously picking up the shipping costs both ways, this offer is limited to guitars with shipping addresses in the Continental USA only.

Still, you gotta admit. This is amazingly cool. Innit?

#0189 on page one could sure use that one. Wish I had the day off.

Good luck to the winner. :bling:

Holy Frickin' Quacamole!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's see - send my 1973 "KISS" songs LP with a SuperD and PAF????? Perhaps not...

Maybe the Dean Caddy, already has a Custom/PG. No - that just seems wrong to send the Dean to Hamer...

I've been doing my own setup for years and have the Seymours that I want in all of my guitars except.....YES! The Black Beater!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh man - that would be awesome!!!!!

Agreed 100%!

Jol is one of those tone "oracles". He's got some of the coolest R&R stories too!

Great feature, Evan!

Jol makes some amazing instruments if you've never had the pleasure of playing them. To get a free setup and pickups from a luthier such as him is a truly, great honor.

Aww, All my guitars already have duncans in them, except for a squier MIK strat and a Kramer, but that's probably going up for sale next thursday anyway so I can get another guitar - probably a tele but who knows...

Anyway, You guys rock harder than granite.
