Re: Guest Luthier Series - Jol Dantzig (Hamer) Wed. 09/09/09 10-5 Eastern
I wouldn't necessarily ask Jol about recreating any pointy headstock era guitars.
All the tooling, ect is destroyed from that era.
And whatever you do don't mention this guy:
I had a conversation with Jol on Nov 13 1996, at an exhibition in Washington, D.C,, where Les Paul was speaking, I met Ted McCarty, Paul Reed Smith, many people and when I reached the Hamer booth.
It was fresh in my mind the leaving of Steve Stevens from Hamer and the ethnic cleansing following his departure, like Steve had never been there.
This was post the same scenario at Washburn, where Steve lasted less than a year in 1993, with them. I asked Jol in all innocence what had happened with Steve (a loyal SD user for many years by the way), he just said, and I quote "I would have coffee any day with Steve, but as far as working together again...." Long pause and that was it.
So as previously mentioned I wouldn't ask about the resurgence of the Centura model, ect.
Sure Hamer makes great hand built guitars, but they are with respect, older player type guitars..the eighties era is over. Maybe not for some of us, but for Hamer, yes..
