And speaking of 24, have you guys dabbled with the idea of a short-scale guitar? I'm particularly fond of 24" scale, but see that you primarily work with 24.75 or above.

You know.. we stick with what we love.. Mahogany, Swamp Ash, Alder
Not that we don't try different or more exotic woods ( Zebrawood, Koa, Walnut, Paduke etc etc) as we do often if you look through our catalog or recent NAMM guitars but as you said we are more familiar with these woods and can better predict the tone, if that's at all possible. We are dealing with a living breathing thing here.. and they all vary greatly.

wow ... so not what I was thinking that instrument would be used for. I would think you could use a lighter guage stirng... and still benifit for the 30" scale. Putting a set of Active Seymour BLACKOUTs would probably give you the attack and tone you wanted....

we do also make some pretty 'metal-looking' 8-strings!

FYI... these and the V-8 below are available at Drum City Guitarland in Wheat Ridge, CO. they stock more of our extended scale 6, 7 and 8 strings than any dealer in the world!

I think what he's referring to is that the neck SH-6n is 12k, and the HB-103n is 8.13k.

There ya go... problem was that the HB-103 specs are not published, but just described in terms of other Duncan models. So, in the end, the pickup was not a mystery, nor off-spec.

Honestly, we use SS and Nickel, truly a preference just like the maple/ebony/rosewood debate. If it works for you, sounds great and feels comfortable.. then it's a winner in our book!

That did however remind me of another question I have (in general).

Have you from all your experience found a combination (of woods or hardware, i.e. in the acoustic level) that keeps all the good qualities of a solid swamp-ash body but with enough lows?

Our custom shop S-SERIES guitars and basses were all Swamp Ash! A very light weight and acoustically resonate wood! Seems to work best in bolt-on neck guitars IMO

sorry .. missed this one. I would suggest a hard-tail (non trem) and then try a few differnt pickup combos to get some of the low end back. I am sure Evan can be of great help here.

ALso .. a rosewood fingerboard would probably add warth over the ebony

Being a massive Fan of The Who i've always loved PT's... but i've heard from a few people that claimed Pete's were Parts guitars and stuck together by guitar makers... and some of teh info i've heard is the PU's were not Shecter Superrocks.... but in photos they look like superrocks to me...
