guilty blues junior pleasures.

Re: guilty blues junior pleasures.

I see, yeh fair enough.
Okay just one quick question from me.
What are the britishy tubes and americany tubes. So i can get a few. What sorta stuff should i experiment with.
Obviously i don't wanna be buying like 3 or 4 speakers til i get the 'right' one. What should be one i can get and be happy with the sound. I think i'll go for the 'british' feel to amps.
Whats a good british speaker, thats not extremely pricey, and will be good enough. Same with tubes, however i don't mine experimenting with tubes, just gimme a direction
Cheers again guys, you guys ARE my heroes.

Benbenben, I think we've told you all of this. EL84s are "British" tubes, you can't use any others. They don't make "American EL84s" and your sound isn't going to be dominated by a vague word to describe a sound. Preamp tubes are preamp tubes; they swear no allegience to any particular country. As for speakers, check out Eminence for a wide range of "American" and "British" speakers.

Re: guilty blues junior pleasures.

since you liked the stock amp enough to buy it, I'd suggest just playing it a while before making any changes. Get familiar with it, with all the EQ options, with the tone, and what you like or don't like. THEN decide if you need anything.
I had mine for months before changing anything, and it was fine.

kind of a side note:
I see folks get amps all the time, then try to "mod" it into something it never was to begin with. There are so many amps out there nowadays that I think it's much better to start with an amp that fits your style, rather than the other way around.

a good example is a Twin Reverb. Lots of folks get TRs, then realize they are just too powerful, and not very convenient to haul around at 70+ lbs, or whatever they weigh. I think that's one reason that they are relatively good deals used.

find an amp that fits your playing style and power needs, then go from there.
Mind you, most tube amps allow for plenty of tweaking by just tailoring the preamp tubes and power tube output, whether by biasing or getting rated tubes.

another consideration is resale value -- if you know that you're keeping an amp that's one thing, but if you ever plan sell it, then any changes to the circuit will likely add little to any value to the amp.
