guitar->cord->amp (LP, a2pro, 1987x RI)

Re: guitar->cord->amp (LP, a2pro, 1987x RI)

It´s the same distortion i heard on Mercyful Fate track, Doomed by the living dead, or A corpse without soul.
Awesome.

Re: guitar->cord->amp (LP, a2pro, 1987x RI)

**#*@ hails WFD :D I have not heard those groups that you speak of, but maybe the like Marshall plexis too.

I have an a2pro in the bridge and a 59 in the neck. The a2pro is a little bit like the Seth Lover, but it's a little more trebly on the top end and it has a little more punch on the bottom.
I set my amp with all knobs on 12:00, including volumes. It will distort more than this, but it gets a little more compressed sounding.

Re: guitar->cord->amp (LP, a2pro, 1987x RI)

Thats awesome tone man!!! I love it...thats it im getting alnico pro humbuckers for my les paul!

Just one question, what speakers are you running through?

Re: guitar->cord->amp (LP, a2pro, 1987x RI)

Yeah Stevo.. Man, so i should get one plexi ...ahahah to play Heavy/Thrash metal in teh vein of Mercyful Fate... i can send to you some mp3 fromthem if you want, just for the researching of distortion tones

My 412 has 2 greenbacks and 2 weber blue dogs. For this little recording, I had the mic on one of the greenbacks.

Re: guitar->cord->amp (LP, a2pro, 1987x RI)

whoa!!!

i always wondered what they sound like, and this sounds great!!!

could you do something for me then?

get maximum gainage and pump out some BLS style riffs!!

and also, just for laughs, could you make a clip with the everything cranked except for mids, which would be non existant :D

Re: guitar->cord->amp (LP, a2pro, 1987x RI)

Great Riff, I really enjoyed it. Love the raw tone, has a real brite bite. How do you set your Plexi knob wise?
Just curious.

Re: guitar->cord->amp (LP, a2pro, 1987x RI)

Kevlar, I have all of my knobs on 12:00 on this one. The MASS was set at 2 1/2. It was not that loud, but just about the volume I play rhythm with a band situation. It does have a little bit of a bright bite. I think it would sound a little better with that bright cap switched out and a little more speaker push.

No mids! :saeek: Holy moly I don't think I could ever get the mids out of my rig :D I can try.
Also, who is BLS? Please excuse my ignorance :laugh2:

u need mids. if i had a nice plexi or an 800 itd be bass 6,mids 8,treble 4. thatd be fatter than michael moore on a mcdonalds only diet.

Re: guitar->cord->amp (LP, a2pro, 1987x RI)

i know i need mids

i have mine cranked for the most part

but i've never heard a plexi with scooped mids ;)

BLS is black label society, zakk wylde's band. basically, big, chunky heavy riffs!!!

Thanks for the info bro.
I will try something with scooped mids, but my setup a2pro->plexi->greenbacks is definitely a mid-focussed rig. I think the a5 bridge pickups have a little more punch and are better for that sound, and the Celestion GT1275 or v30, or the Weber silver bell, are probably better speakers for that un-mid sound also :D but I'll give it a shot.

Re: guitar->cord->amp (LP, a2pro, 1987x RI)

marshalls have insanely exaggerated tone stacks compared to fender BF's and Voxes...

Great tone dude, exactly what i pictured a marshall should sound like. congrats on the tone!

Re: guitar->cord->amp (LP, a2pro, 1987x RI)

Thanks Quencho. I definitely love blackface tone too. I am thinking about getting an old pro in the near future. I played through one at a local music store a couple of months ago. I couldn't help myself and had to crank it.. loved it :D

Re: guitar->cord->amp (LP, a2pro, 1987x RI)

That was great, Stevo! Love your style and your tone as always. Been digging so much on the Marshall sound lately that I'd be tempted to grab a used one if I happened to cross paths with the right one. Offhand maybe a JTM 45 head or possibly a 50 watt JCM 800. We'll see what I find. Again, cool stuff!!

Re: guitar->cord->amp (LP, a2pro, 1987x RI)

Mike - thanks for listening. I really like this 1987x. When I got it, I basically tossed a coin when deciding between this and a JTM-45 reissue. I'll be interested in hearing about the amp that you decide on, whenever you get it :)

Re: guitar->cord->amp (LP, a2pro, 1987x RI)

That tone is sooo wet!!! I love it!!!
Very Cool recording! I like how the riff had an old school vibe & a contemporary vibe to it as well.
