Re: Guitar Fetish bodies/necks??
I've been using a lot of GFS necks in builds for the past few years. I only buy the unfinished ones with the large paddle headstock so I can do all of the shaping and finishing myself. Their XGP line are really good...very little work needed.
Just for kicks several months ago I ordered a couple of their regular cheapy necks that were on sale for a ridiculously low price, I figured if they were really bad I would have to do a lot of work on them, but that was ok. One of them was really very decent and only needed some work on the fret ends. The other was very bad!! The neck was warped like a propeller and the frets weren't seated completely. It was so cheap, I was ready to just use it for firewood and forget about it, but what the heck, I called GFS about it. They immediately emailed me a prepaid return label and sent me a replacement neck. This replacement was the most beautiful neck I've ever seen at any price. Straight as an arrow, perfectly symmetrical grain in the maple neck, and the maple fretboard was made of amazingly gorgeous curly maple that had been sanded smooth as glass. The frets were also next to perfect only requiring slight end filing and sanding (but I do this anyway on every neck I buy and every guitar that I buy regardless of cost...yes even $2000+ Gibsons). I think the only guitars I've bought that I didn't need to do any fret touch-up work on were a Fender American Strat and a Schecter C1 (my #1 guitar). Both are about 10 years old now.
Bottom line...In my experience, if the GFS XGP necks aren't the best you can get, the service is.
