Guitar hangers?

I'm trying to build a frame to hang some guitars. Anyone have a source for nice hangers that aren't too expensive, but still decent quality. I got some from Harbor Freight, but on closer inspection, I'm not sure I'd trust my axe's in them.

Re: Guitar hangers?

Hercules wall hangers are great. i have a bunch of them. My kids have had many opportunities to destroy my guitars, but Hercules foiled the evil bastards every time. Worth every penny!

Re: Guitar hangers?

Both of those look good. The trouble is, I'm looking at hanging 20 - 30 guitars. (Some are customers.) At $13 to $20 ea., those hangers add up fast.
Then again, I may just have to bite the bullet and do it.

Re: Guitar hangers?

Call Chuck Levins in wheaton, MD. If you need 20-30 they'll most likely give you 30-40% off. If not, call back later and ask someone else :)

Re: Guitar hangers?

The triangular hole patterm means that one of thos screws, possibly two, will end up in the drywall. Regardless of whether you go with Fretrest or Hercules, look for two hole pattern in a vertical line. That way, both screws go straight into the stud.

I lucked out and found them on sale at GC for $5 a pop and bought an entire case of them. I think they might have been closer to $15-20 regular price.

You only need one of the screws going into the stud. Even with a pry bar you won't be able to pull it out of the wall. The screws in the sheetrock are really only to stabilize it.

Re: Guitar hangers?

I tend to worry how hangers would fare in an earthquake... They seem convenient, but I'd just get paranoid and add padding to the back of the wall to prevent slapping/weld a cage around them so meandering drunks couldn't bludgeon into them.

Re: Guitar hangers?

artie i'm wondered you are considering buying wall hangers when you are skilled enough to make them yourself..... let me guess time right?
