The thread about the new Flyod Rose speed loader guitar and Lynch's guitars with the moving pickup made me think of this. What are some of the best inovations in guitar construction.

In my opinion on of the best is locking tuning keys. They stay in tune better amd are alittle faster to replace strings.

• knife edge tremolo bridges
• treble bypass capacitors
• coil splits, series/parallel switching
• locking tuners
• graphite nuts
• stainless steel frets
• active pickups
• double action truss rods
• locking hardware (e.g., Tone Pros)
• Tremsetter
• strap locks

The list goes on...

Travis Bean's guitar designs. No at the time had done what he did...and no one really has since (on a large scale). It is just too expensive to be practical with today's aluminum costs. His design for the aluminum neck-through guitar is amazingly simple, durable, and functional. These sustain machines will litterally last forever.

so is the question basically 'What is the single best addition to Leo's original design?'

If it is then I'd say Seth Lover's Humbuckers, hands down. Humbuckers basically invented heavy rock. No other innovation has had such a dramatic effect as Humbucking pickups.

i always thought the piezo was a good innovation, although its one of those love/hate things.

id definitely put the floyd rose up there.

and of course aftermarket p'ups, and the progress solid state amps have come in terms of sound quality while maintaining cost effectiveness. some solid state amps sound pretty good for alot less money than tube amps.

tummy/ forearm cuts on strat, dual coils, the cut for reaching higher on the neck, the neck-thru design, contour fretboard radii..... there really could be anything.

I would say the humbucker, but the Floyd Rose system comes close.
