Re: Guitar Neck Preferences - Please Vote!

I can't think of any definite thing. all have their uses for me. But I do have serious opinions.

You could delete the thread and repost the poll as originally intended. ;)

Re: Guitar Neck Preferences - Please Vote!

I like 1 certian nut width, neck thru or set neck, one scale lenth
and i'm fairly open to back profiles (anything from schecter - ibanez)

Re: Guitar Neck Preferences - Please Vote!

I do prefer the "C" shaped neck (just feels good to me) with a fully scalloped fret board with 6000 jumbo frets

Re: Guitar Neck Preferences - Please Vote!

I won't use anything thicker than Warmoth's "standard thin." An Ibanez Wizard II or the neck on my Schecter 006 Deluxe are both about right, with the original Wizards being a little too thin for me. I'm pretty open as far as profiles go. Fretboard wise, I need a relatively flat radius. Anything strait less than 12" is too much, 14" is about right, 16" is doable. Once you get higher than that, I'm not a big fan. Compound 10-16" is my favorite.

Re: Guitar Neck Preferences - Please Vote!

I prefer 1 11/16 nuts, and will only play those. I prefer 25.5 scales, but that's not exclusive. Jumbo+ frets ONLY. I prefer neck-thru and set-neck, but am not at all opposed to a bolt on. I actually like quite a few bolt-ons better than set's/thru's I've played.

Flat radii, please. I like 14+, although the 12-16 compound on my RR-1 is nice.

I prefer mohogany as a body wood over most others, but it won't be a deciding factor. Maple necks preferably, I like both painted and oiled.

Three way toggle switches are in every way shape and form superior to their bladed counterparts.

Master volume controls only. I dislike shared controls. I also never use my tone control. My RR-1 has it disconnected, and I'm getting a new pickguard made for it soon with only cuts for a Volume, 3-way toggle, and a 1/4" mini toggle to split the pickups. My Schecter only has a tone knob in it because I'm not sure if I'd like the added brightness. I'm certainly going to try it out soon, though.

Schaller straplocks exclusively.

If I have a hardtail, it's going to be a TOM, no matter what. If it's not a TOM, it'll be a Floyd or Wilkie.

I don't like strat shapes very much. The lower horn actually gets in the way of my left hand. V's and other "winged" shapes play best standing up to me, as well.

1-11/16'' nut only
25.5'' scale only
bolt on only
Mahogany body, Maple neck, Ebony fretboard ( ideal wood combo )
im with DSS3 on the strats, V's are for me~ i dont find LP's too comfy either...
3-5 way blade switches only
gotta be OFR or a TOM

Re: Guitar Neck Preferences - Please Vote!

25.5 scale length, i like all kinds of necks but long neck tenon's the most, ebony fretboard always, 60's neck profile, TOM bridge, 22 frets

Re: Guitar Neck Preferences - Please Vote!

I HATE V shaped necks

I prefer 24 3/4

I like 1 11/16

Don't care bolt/set

prefer mahogany for everything

don't mind innovation

Re: Guitar Neck Preferences - Please Vote!

i havent really noticed a difference between 25.5 and 24 3/4 scale lengths. i think overtime ill just get adjusted. i really liked the way the parker fly deluxe's carbon glass composite fretboard felt. it was extremely smooth. it was the easiest playing fretboard i have ever played. i think different necks suit different guitars differently, thats why i dont really have a neck preference.

Re: Guitar Neck Preferences - Please Vote!

I tend to like Thinner necks or V shape necks for the most part but do use others that i like..... Maple or Mahogany.... i love Rosewood boards but my main strat has an all Maple neck... My Main Strat also has a thick C shape to it.... I love the Clapton necks... i also like the Wolfgang neck as well.... I oneday want to try the new 59lp neck shape Warmoth offers as i liked the feel of my buddies 59 reissue LP.

I have big hands and i prefer 1 11/16 nut width.... i have played some guitars like the Wolfgang or the EC Strat that have the more vintage 1 5/8 and they feel great but the little less string spread bugs me...

I prefer Fenders 25 1/2 scale over Gibsons 24 3/4... I find being such a large guy with big hands the tighter strings help me stay in tune a little better as i tend to hit them hard... I do use an LP once in while... i can't say i don't like the Gibson sound and feel because i really love it... but over all other guitars make me much happier...

Re: Guitar Neck Preferences - Please Vote!

I prefer 25.5" scale, V-shaped neck (like my Framus Renegade and Strat Elite). IMO the method of neck attachment does not influence the sound - only it's quality.

Re: Guitar Neck Preferences - Please Vote!

I play many types of necks. Have an early 60s Les Paul-SG with a real slim neck. I also have a Howard Roberts Fusion, which have a fat late-50s neck, and a Fender HM Strat Ultra with a thin/wide "shredding" neck. Takes some time get used to all types, and I have discovered that I - after 40 years of playing - have started to look when I play. Otherwize my fast runs up to, say, a high C often ends with a Ciss on my Gibsons, or a B on my Strat. :(

Re: Guitar Neck Preferences - Please Vote!

Med/jumbo or larger (but not insane huge frets), FAT neck profile (I got real big hands, so typically the more wood the better), and i really dig the way my EBMM's neck feels, though I wish the nut was a bit wider. Not really too picky on profiles though, just as long as I'm not playin on a wizard or similar neck.

Re: Guitar Neck Preferences - Please Vote!

I have a variety of construction types, nut widths, scale lengths, back shapes, and fret sizes. Of the variations, the only glaring dislike is small frets. My tele and aria strat don't get played nearly enough because of the tiny frets.

Based on where I'm at right now in terms of comfort, I've lately been right at home on the neck of my Mockingbird. The LP is also comfortable, but those two necks aren't that similar, so I'm not too picky when it comes to scale length, back shape, and width.

Re: Guitar Neck Preferences - Please Vote!

I can get used to almost anything, but my favorite is the Jackson Soloist style neck, or the neck on my Charvel. Bodywise, forget all the goofy sh1t and stick with a superstrat or Soloist. Everyone who prefers Vs to Strats must have rubber forearms :)

Re: Guitar Neck Preferences - Please Vote!

For me i like les paul necks for les paul (with rosewood fingerboard)
and strat necks for strats (with maple fingerboard)
but RIC 330 have ****ty necks (the 360 necks r a lot better)
