Guitar Neck Shimming

Ok, so I just bought a BC Rich Bronze Warlock guitar. Ok, I already know, it's not a very nice guitar. I've been playing for quite some time and have some really nice instruments. I bought it purely for the way the body looks. I want to make it a project guitar and really just hang it on the wall. Anyways, the neck has a gap in it where it meets the body. Not inbetween the end of the neck and the side of the body, but the rosewood overhang that is over the top of the guitar body has a gap. It almost looks like there should be an angled shim under there to straighted it out. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Should I sand the neck down to make the overhang sit flush with the top of the guitar? Thanks alot, just wondering because none of my other guitars are like this!

Re: Guitar Neck Shimming

Thats just how the overhang is on some guitars. Its nothing to worry about, thats just the way it is. Look at it this way....Your strat probably has an overhang too (if its 22 fret anyways), Now If there was no pickgaurd, that over hang would be quite a bit off the body wouldn't it?
any guitar neck with an extended fretboard is gonna have a gap between the body and the overhang. Just most have a pickgaurd in that spot, so its not noticeable. Its nothing to worry about. You can stick some wood in there if you want to. But its really not nessicarry.

Thanks for the response. I don't think it's too big of a deal, but i'd like it to look a little nicer! Anyone else have any thoughts? Thanks!
