so.......do you sing or not apart from playing the guitar? It's well known that if you sing also you get more chances in joining a group with good gigs.........

Re: Guitar playing and singing......

I usually play rhythm/sometimes lead/ and backup vocals. And Mike is the best singer and songwriters IN THE WORLD :D

Re: Guitar playing and singing......

I've never been the main singer but I sing a lot, not just backup, so none of the above.

Re: Guitar playing and singing......

I take feeble attempts at trying to sing backup. I really do wish I could sing though.

Re: Guitar playing and singing......

Backup vocals, on account that no one else can do backup because their voices sound horrible. Or maybe because I have a good voice for backup vocals. iono. whatever.

Re: Guitar playing and singing......

My singing sounds like sh*t, and I couldn't carry a tune if my life depended on it.

I just play guitar or percussion.

Re: Guitar playing and singing......

My voice is no where near good enough, IMO, to be a lead singer. I can have a pretty smooth voice if I want to, but it's more often than not a little rough. Not bad for rock, though. My downfall is range. I'm a baritone. With my vocal range, we'd likely have to tune to C, so I just stick to backing vocals. So, our drummer is singing vocals right now. Besides, he's a far better singer than the rest of us.

Re: Guitar playing and singing......

I did not vote, because it depends on the context. I sing lead and backing vocals along with playing. I never could master singing and playing trumpet though...

Re: Guitar playing and singing......

When I just have to sing along my wife or one of the kids will close the door to the room I'm in.

But as it says in Psalms in several places, "Make a joyful noise..." not sing in tune.

Awwww, you dont have to sing good for me Biu, I'll love you anyway. :laugh2: :laugh2:

Re: Guitar playing and singing......

I'm a back up singer when i play the guitar, only if the main singer is awesome.

Re: Guitar playing and singing......

Don't have much of a range or quality in my voice, I'm only a baritone. Any high parts I end up sounding like Minnie Mouse! Plus my timing goes off when I sing and play. I do sing at practice alot when our lead singer is late or MIA, just to give the others something to follow.

Re: Guitar playing and singing......

I'm the main singer in my band, the other two do backup. Not really by choice, and I've never considered myself a vocalist, but I'm the only one that knows the words to the songs, since I'm the one picking them. It's easier for me to sing if I'm playing guitar (sometimes I can't find a bass player, so I have to bring a guitarist in and I handle the bass), but it doesn't really matter to me. I can sing when I'm drumming, too. I just don't do that very often.

Re: Guitar playing and singing......

I am the lead singer in my band. Mostly play rhythm but do have some solos. Lead guitarist and bass player(girl) sing backups. Not to be braging or anything but I am very confident in my singing ability. Have won many singing competions. A lot of you are better guitar players than singers, I'm a lot better singer than I am guitar player.

Exactly the same here (even the girl bass player), exept for the confidence in singning and winning competitions.
I started singing because we didn't have a singer and according to the rest my voice was the least annoying to listen to.
Now I'm thinking about taking some lessons.

Guitar playing is a lot of fun when you sing with it IMHO and it's good exercise at the same time.
