I can certainly make it work, but the goodness of a boost pedal is just too damn useful to ingnore for me. Not only do you have the amp alone or amp plus boost, but both sound different when you roll back the guitar volume, so there's four tonal variations already. Depending on which amp I use, I might use a TS type, some other OD type, or a compressor (low comp and release, boosted level).
