Guitar squeals like a pig after new electronics

I just recently wired up my pickgaurd with new dimarzio 500K pots and a 5 way sitch and a stereo jack.
After I wired it up i could hear a little feedback, but once i put the strings on and started playing the feedback was unbearable...All grounds are connected to the volume pot and to the respective places, even on the tremolo claw. This is a HSH setup and the pickups were Ibanez 3 conductor and they are wired correctly according to their website. The feedback happens in all 5 positions and only stops if i turn the volume knob OFF or unplug the jack. If i turn the Tone knob off it is still there just more of a buzzing, but its still there. The pickups and hardware are mounted on an aluminum pickguard i had made for this guitar a few years back, but then it was a SSS setup. Any feedback on this issue is GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Guitar squeals like a pig after new electronics

No further question, your honour. Case closed.

ppl install copper or aluminum shields under their pickguards to make a faraday cage, in combination with shielded cavities and achieving a continuous conductive space for the whole electronics compartment, connected to the ground. Granted many things can go wrong with that and unexpected/unwanted conducts may happen. But by itself it rather works for the opposite argument (being a possible ingredient of noiseless shielding).

Re: Guitar squeals like a pig after new electronics

I am suggesting that the problem is mechanical resonance rather than anything electrical.

Re: Guitar squeals like a pig after new electronics

So you think that pups pickup the vibrations of the aluminum? Can the pups sense movement of aluminum which is not magnetic ?

Please post a picture of the pickguard
With the wiring

Re: Guitar squeals like a pig after new electronics

Once i can get time after all star games are done i will post a picture of it.....baseball is a time sucker, but my son loves it. Dont get me wrong, i enjoy watching it as well.

Re: Guitar squeals like a pig after new electronics

see if earthing the pickguard helps first. Just run a wire from the pickguard to the ground point on the volume pot

Re: Guitar squeals like a pig after new electronics

Is there something odd going on at the stereo output jack?

Re: Guitar squeals like a pig after new electronics

i suspected the output jack all along .. if i was troubleshooting this guitar.. that would be the starting point

I'm thinking it's something there as well, since all other components are grounded. The output jack still has the power lug wide open and not grounded. To the ground post either. Possible I guess.

OK...I finally got around to looking at this guitar problem again.....Come to find out, the stereo jacks "HOT" terminal, (if its not being used like mine) has to be grounded out to a pot as well or the unwanted feedback/buzz/hum is what is heard. I grounded it out and now all I get is a clean sound now....

I would try this first...I do know sometimes having the "shielding" creates more of a problem than a solution...

EDIT:

So I'm an idiot...didn't read the very next post...lol

Glad you got it fixed!

Man, i know. Now to put some 9's on it and tune it down and experiment with alternate tunings some.
