beandip said:Yeah, early early stuff. I've got some great "bootlegs" that I picked up in Austin awhile back. Back when he was in the Cobras and The Triple Threat Revue, and went by Little Stevie Vaughan.

I'll focus on players I like. Everyone knows CC Deville and Kirk Hammet's tones suck.
Early Randy Rhoads. Obviously feeling his way into the tone thing.
Joe Satriani. Something's wrong if every cheesy pedalboard out there has a preset that sounds almost identical to your tone.
Most Eric Clapton after blind faith. maybe not bad tone, but nothing like he had.
John Petrucci. Yes, you sound EXACTLY like you run a bunch of mesas into a rack.
+1 (generally speaking--there are some exceptions).theodie said:Fender amps. People love them but, They have not ever jived with me.

I only have two SRV albums - Texas Flood and Live Alive.
Whilst I appreciate Stevie's awesome playing on both of these, I find the tone doesn't come close to the best I've heard by my Strat idols - Jimi Hendrix and Rory Gallagher.
What track(s) are the epitome of the SRV tone?

beandip said:Live Alive was probably one of his worst albums ever. Nearly everthing on that album is studio but the audience, cause he was so throwed that night, that everything was crap. Check out In Step, SRV: The Real Deal, and SRV: Greatest Hits are IMO the best one's he's dont. His tones on "Family Style" with his brother are more stratish than SRV-ish, since they both played Jimmie's oly white strat on the entire album, but you can tell who's playing when.
