Guitar Up Keep

I am going to be doing some guitar up keep in the next few weeks. I have noticed that some of the screws through out the guitar are becoming stripped out.

What is the best filler or fix for this condition?. I was thinking about using a wood filler, then re-drilling the holes.

Thanks for any help on this subject.

Re: Guitar Up Keep

I just use toothpicks and elmer's glue, wait until it dries, and then screw the part back on. I've used it for pickguard screws, tuner screws, strap buttons, and jack plates.

$1.97 tube of wood putty. You can get it at Lowes, Home Depot, etc. They even come in different grain types like mahogany, ash, maple etc.

sawdust and wood glue mix it together more sawdust than glue and let dry no more problems :)

Works best in my experience. Just be sure to soak the toothpicks in glue and shove ´em in all the way, not 2 drops of glue and 1/32" penetration ;)

Guitar upkeep?

Lemon oil the fretboard and entire neck. Dry off thoroughly.
Fill those stripped holes with PUTTY or Zerb's Woodglue/toothpick method.
Wipe off the hardware with an oily rag.
Clean the guitar with guitar polish.
Spray contact cleaner into the pots and twist them for a few minutes.
Adjust the action, truss rod, and do a thorough intonation job so the guitar rings like a bell. New strings first, also.
