Guitars for lease: my newest project

Re: Guitars for lease: my newest project

I agree! Cool what you are doing! I would love to be able to try some other guitars and pickups without purchase commitment. Good for you to share your abundance! Gets those guitars some love too

Re: Guitars for lease: my newest project

So I guess we shouldn't bring up the time you lent a guitar to a guy for an hour and he covered your Zehphrs in blood?

I mean, it's a nice idea and all but not really original in that many music stores already rent gear. The way you're doing it, while well intentioned, is simply very risky due to the fact that you aren't a business and don't have insurance to cover loss/theft/damage in the event that something unfortunate may eventually happen. You seem very adverse to the idea of profit, but if it were me I'd at the very least get the needed safeguards in place and charge what you need to break even.

Totally a true history. But... I didnt know that guy. For now I lend only to guys I know. That makes the world a difference.

I understand. Hope all works good for you and your musician friends. Hope they really appreciate you like they should.

haha, I think they do :) I started to believe in a 'do good to receive good' philosophy, ever since my long time relationship stranded. And it seems to be working! I was shocked to notice people actually being happy to see me after having not seen me for a year or so. Never had that before. If I get hit by a truck tomorrow I want to have a legacy and an obituary which states 'yeah, he was a good guy, not a ******'. If that works out for me, I'm a happy camper. It's not a matter of actively doing 'good', just 'doing', you know? I think that if you have a wealth, whether it's financial, cultural, scientific, material, whatever, you have to share it with others. Not only will their standard of living improve but yours as well. So, don't try to be a great man, just try to be a man and let history make its judgement. (yes, that's a quote from Star Trek ;) ).

Great philosophy. Wish there were more like you. Spread the wealth (of human kindness). Keep on keeping on.

Re: Guitars for lease: my newest project

If you don't want to make money, why charge anything at all?

As a way to keep up (the) instruments, update them where needed and add new guitars to the stock. Also, it aids in the feeling of responsibility of the player. If the lease is higher it may give him (or her) a sense of ownership and this way it's a reminder that the guitar isn't his (or hers) and may help in solidifying the idea that they have to take care of the guitar.
