Guitars you aspire to own...

Cat In The Hatministrator
I always have a quick look through the goodies within the Trading Post and there is always something to catch my eye, which got me thinking about guitars I'd really like to own.

For the purpose of this thread I'm going to choose 2, as that's a realistic goal, rather than I'd like a 335, Tele, Strat, LP etc...

Now I'm not necessarily talking about uber-expensive dream machines, or 1 0ff custom shop models (although if that's your dream, then that's cool). Everybody has a limit to what they can afford to spend or what they would be comfortable spending.

As I'm limited fund-wise, there are several instruments that are out of my range but it comes down to this...

I would be a happy man with what I already own, plus a Les Paul Standard and a Clapton Strat...that's it!

So the 2 guitars that I aspire to own are a Gibson Les Paul Standard and a Fender Eric Clapton Signature Stratocaster.

Your turn...

Re: Guitars you aspire to own...

andy summers tele. no big deal if it never happens tho.

Yeah, that's the thing. I've got great guitars, and I'd be quite happy to play those, but we all suffer from the dreaded GAS and I'm intrigued to what floats people's boats out there...

Re: Guitars you aspire to own...

I'm going to be in the minority here as I don't have any guitar GAS ... for the moment at least. Unless my style of music or playing changes drastically I'm fortunate enough to be done with guitars. However, amps are another story.......

On a side note my favourite guitar ironically is my cheapest, I think it's because I've ALWAYS wanted a Gibson SG but never found one that actually did it for me. I thought I had a while back, got a mega deal on a '61 R.I off one off my sons mates but I moved it on for him after just 2 days and gave the lad the profit from my sale. The Gordon Smith SG is not the prettiest of guitars and certainly is not the best looking SG but with a Bro/ A2Pn it flats out floats my boat every time I play it. If ever I see a similar guitar for sale I'm going to bag it for sure!!

I want a Telecaster. It's not something I couldn't get, but I'd rather get a super bad amp first.

I have a thing for pickin' and poppin'.

Re: Guitars you aspire to own...

The thing that keeps catching my eye is the Gibson LP R7 - if it's a Tom Murphy aged one, then doubly so. Other than that, if there was such a thing as a Jeff Beck Strat with a Clapton profile neck, then I wouldn't need to be GASsing for it, I'd already have one in my possession...

Teuffel; can't decide between the Niwa (top) and Tesla. Hell, the Birdfish is cool too.

Outside of some ones that don't exist (an ebony board 24.75 scale PRS Custom 22)

The 1988 Showcase Edition Les Paul Custom Lite Goldtop ... seriously sexy

To be honest those are the only guitars I'd consider picking up (and even then it'd have to be a good price). The only other guitar I'd love to have is a late 40's Gibson L7 which can be had for a considerably good deal compared to L5's, with a Statler repro of a Dearmond Adjustable Rhythm Chief.

Re: Guitars you aspire to own...

I'm a very happy guy and have more now than I need...I could get by with just one guitar and an amp if I had to that said I do still have a list of things I'd like to add to the stable one day but of all the guitars on the wish list this is the one that haunts me!

indeed. GAS can be a very sharp, and shooting pain.

Re: Guitars you aspire to own...

Even though my GAS has been for amps and pedals lately, there are a few guitars I'd love to own.

Likely to own in the next year or so:
Fender Telecaster FMT HH in Dark Cherry or Transparent Red
Custom build parts-o-caster Tele, Swamp Ash Body with a Mini-hum in the neck and a twangy single coil bridge pickup of some sort

Not likely to own anytime soon:
Collings D1HG
Taylor T5
Warmoth chambered Mahogany strat with 3 Mini Hums.

Re: Guitars you aspire to own...

only 2 guitars really give me a boner....

Jolly's Honey/Amber LP
and a Gibson Explorer in Alpine White

A friend has one, and at one point, had two Barneys. Had the privilege to play them a few times, lovely guitars.

I am very happy with a Tele and two Hamer Specials, but I someday would like to pick up one of Carvin's carved top models.

My second choice, not a guitar, but an octave mandolin.

Re: Guitars you aspire to own...

With my fiftieth birthday approaching, I aspire to own fewer guitars. Just better renditions of things that I have already amassed.

European forumites, watch out in the Trading Post. ;)
