Some folks prefer brand loyalty to having to think.

Re: Guys - AMAZING pickups!!!

I sold the set out of my Epi tribute. IMO, their fatal flaw is they are A2. Its not that they're bad, its there are better options. That set bought me a nice new Duncan and some other crap

Re: Guys - AMAZING pickups!!!

I love gibsons. I really love my lesters. If I think to a guitar, a Les Paul comes to my mind. But the pickups are not the best ones the money can buy. Among the gibson production the 57 classic are the worst IMO. Blueman35 in a different thread defined them dull and uninspiring, and I am with him. The BB line is set to a different level, even if the gibson pickup I prefer the most is the 500T. Anyway all of them are ok only for a limited period of time, then when your ear has become accustomed to that kind of sound, when you start to find it familiar, you realize that something is always missing. a bit of highs, a bit of clarity, in short, as if they were always unfinished. And so you start searching something different. They don't worth the money they cost.

Re: Guys - AMAZING pickups!!!

I really failed to portray how much this guy was saying they were blazing scorching pups. He was indeed an idiot. Certainly drinking. Likely high.

I am indifferent to the 57 classics I've heard. Neither a hater nor a lover. But I'm not dropping a pair in to put shake me/crazy train/Big City nights over the top!

And NO WAY NO HOW for $125 each / $250 for the set!!!!!!!!!!!!

The costs of 2nd hand Gibson pickups have always been consistently unreasonable. It's a combination of buying Gibson as a status symbol and buying Gibson in the mistaken belief that they never changed the recipe and what you're buying now is a direct link to a hallowed past.

Re: Guys - AMAZING pickups!!!

I'd spend $250 on a Fluence set, not on 57 Classics.

Re: Guys - AMAZING pickups!!!

I don't mind the '57's but the very best thing about Gibson pickups is you can sell them for way more than a set of Duncans cost and then pocket the difference. :D

Not to say that brand loyalty can't be earned and deserved.
But Gibson has always been a guitar manufacturer that made pickups to put in it's instruments. Certainly, they have made good pickups, and great one's. The great one's tended to be by accident. They also made some purely functional one's.
Thus the aftermarket.

What the hell were you thinking?

You can’t expect people on a guitar pickup forum to understand that your story is about the ******bag who was trying to sell you something and his technique, and then go and mention the Gibson 57 Classics in the same story. It’s scientifically impossible for your target audience to NOT enter into some form of a debate about the pros and cons of the pickups themselves.

Rookie mistake… You should know better!
